Well, what ever the foam is that I have, it did not disolve with gas when I poured some on it. So Chewie should be safe. He's more concerned that we will go up in flames, should one of our many cig buts come in contact with any gas soaked foam. As the tank does not leak and my test did not disolve the foam, I think we will be ok.

Just a thought but that old trailer you got there you can sand blast it and shoot it with some ryno liner and it will be sealed and look like bew forever! Just a thought....

If you read the begining of my post you would have seen that I sandblasted the trailer down, sprayed with self etching primer, then with Rustoleum.
Its not perfect but its good enough till I find a nice twin axle trailer next spring.

Ok, well hunted the last two mornings. Brought down 22 birds with my partners.
Will be back on the boat Friday.
Plan to button up wiring and plumbing, sanding etc.
Trim and stain deck.
Lay deck on Saturday and build console.
paint boat Saturday night, maybe.
Sure would love to have her in the water on Sunday.

Re: 22' Starcraft Mariner Project is underway!

Weather hindered the progress this weekend but Friday I got the deck cut and trimmed.
Then saturday was a bust and Sunday I took my wife to see her dad on his b-day.
Monday was a great day.
Finished the plumbing on the fuel tank, primed the deck and built the console.
Tonight after work, I will paint the deck and trim in the wood for the two storage boxes. I will try and post some progress photos tomorrow.

I really have to hand it to some of you guys. These restorations are no small project! Labor of love is more like it.

Would automotive brake clean help in the removal of foam from the hull? I ask as it will actually melt "beer cooler" type foam pretty darn quick.

Also for prepping the metal, how about "Metal Ready" by POR? I have used it <on steel> and can attest to it's ability to prep metal for whatever your going to apply to it.

Take Care!

Re: 22' Starcraft Mariner Project is underway!

Finally some visable progress. I can see the light at the end of the tunnel now and I just need to not rush and finish this right.
Since may last post I have done the following.
Finished the fuel tank plumbing,
pulled all needed wires to the console area.
roughed in the bow and aft storage lockers.
Trimed,fitted and primed/stained the floor.
Built and primed the console.
And I started setting floor back in the boat last night. Hurray!!:D
So now I'm just trying to get the floor finished and screwed in.
and install the console in its location.
In the photo I have the console sitting in the boat but it will sit over the wires you see pulled thru the floor towards the back.

Once I have the floor and console in place, I will finish preping the hull for paint. Then seal the joints and stain the floor. Then finally paint the hull.
I'm getting close.

Re: 22' Starcraft Mariner Project is underway!

I finished the floor install after work tonight.
All storage lockers are working with hinges and handles.
I will be working on fixing the console to the floor tonight and possibly installing the steering and throttle.
If the rain holds off tomorrow. I will get some pictures up.

After the console is in working order, next on the list is the finish work to prepare for final paint.

We're getting closer to the water each day.

Re: 22' Starcraft Mariner Project is underway!

Made great progress this weekend.
Friday night I was able to get the console screwed down in place and the steering installed.
Sunday, I worked almost all day.
Installed Throttle controls, tac, switch panel, trim/tilt switch and ingnition.
I also finished some final trim wood and siliconed the seems on the floor and painted the walls.
An 80 grit flapper disk made light work of sanding down the metal2metal that filled in the many holes on the top of the gunwals.

Remaining to do list:
Wire up switch panel, tac, fuel gauge.
Paint floor, exterior hull and motors.
I also need to install an in-line fuel filter as I did not find one on the motor and need to protect it from any particles that may have made it in to the tank or are remaining from when I cleaned the tank.
Should be a good week.

I will be running this boat Diver Duck Hunting on Lake Michigan, Huron and Superior, along with some inland lakes.

Looking good roughshot, nice work on those hatches.:)

I've been seeing tons of geese passing thru my kneck of the woods. Lake Ovid in Sleepy Hollow state park is a good inland lake for birds just north of Lansing.

I'll second that. That front hatch is begging for a couple bags of ice and a whole lot of salmon.

You better quit taking your time on this project, Cap. :p Only 26 days left before the opener.

One question: Where's the quesadilla maker? You know I hate bird hunting without quesadillas!

Finally figured out the wireing on the key switch today.
So she's ready to fire up and go for a ride.
Tonight I will finish up some caulking and paint the floor and console.
Looks like tomorrow may be a good day to paint the boat.

Painted the floor last night and primed the gunwal rail.
I love grey, no matter what shade.
I will finish the wiring in the console tonight, if I'm not too tired from the early morning hunt today.:D

Looking like Sunday will be a good day to paint the Hull, Saturday I will be in the water giving it a good sea trial.

Re: 22' Starcraft Mariner Project is underway!

Well after a month and a half project "Waterlog" made it to the water today for a test run. I was excited. I had not been on the water in this boat since I bought it. Well, my cheap a*@ self didn't buy the starting battery before going to the lauch as I figured my deep cycle had enough charge to crank her over and go for a spin. Nope!
So I tied the boat off on the dock and ran up to the parts store and picked up a battery.
Back to the lauch.
Now the boat as cranking but not fireing.
Well, pulled the boat out of the water and headed down the road to my mechanic as he was just down the road a mile.
He wasn't home... hope he's ok as his shop is never closed and it was locked up tight today at 3pm.
Well, took the wife and kids home. They came with to the lauch, my wife said she wanted to get a picture. Or just a good laugh if it sank.
I knew I wouldn't sleep till I heard the motor purr, so I dropped the wife and kids in the house and went back to the launch.
After chatting on the phone with my buddy Chewie, it was determined I had an air lock/bubble in my fuel system.
Was able to purge that out and she fired up like a race car.
I let it run for a good 30 min at the launch then mother called and said we were going to be having company and I needed to get home.
So I'm waiting till Sunday now to go for my first boat ride.
I'm so excited I don't think I'll sleep tonight.
Wait a minute, I have young kids, of course I wont sleep tonight:D

I will have photos of her in the water tomorrow night.

Once she's home tomorrow, I will be giving her a light sanding then wash her down with lacquer thinner and start painting the Hull.
