Re: 66 Starcraft Sunchief Re-Build

Wow guys! I don't know what to say-honestly. We bought the boat to keep it in the family and of course to have some fun with. I just couldn't stand seeing her in the condition she was in so we decided to do a little work on her. One thing led to another and we went a tad overboard probably.

I have to say that the intimidation factor was huge starting this project. No experience and not much info out there to draw from. When we started, there was just a small handfull of stuff here and nothing hardly available on the internet.

So look what's out there now. Multiple Starcraft models being re-done here and between a couple of us here we have at least the brochures pretty much covered from the early 60's thru about mid 70's.

I think everyone's doing a great job on their re-builds and it's great to see folks taking different approaches at different levels. I really like the job we did with mine, and I'm extremely interested in watching Kev take the low budget approach (I'm being sincere here Kev) to his build. It's also cool watching Andy rip thru his build like he's got somewhere to go:D

I guess the point is that all the different approaches are really interesting to watch and each day we get some new info by way of someone bringing something in we haven't seen before.

NB,

Your rebuild has been truly inspirational to us. I refer back to your thread often to see how you handled a particular issue or another. And the commonality of the starcraft line while not only making their production line more streamlined, has helped us immensly in our individual rebuilds. You have set the bar very high my freind and should be very proud of the final product. Dare I say - Much Better Than New!

Re: 66 Starcraft Sunchief Re-Build

OK. enough of the mushy stuff. I'm doing last minute preparations for tomorrow's journey to two weeks at the lake house. So far,

  • I've purchased at least one big pack of every pastry Costco sells:D

  • Danged near depleted the striper fly section at the local Gander Mountain:eek:

  • Packed enough life vests for way more people than my boat is rated for (10)

  • Just about drivin everyone in my family completely insane

  • Probably dropped the ball on several work and personal related items-Bret, sorry, I owe you some answers on stuff and it will have to wait till I return-Halas, your emblems went out today.

and last but most important, I got these puppies installed on the boat-they should provide at least 10 more horsepower!!!

The MerCruiser and Starcraft decals are sweeeeeet! NB nice work.

I for one would like to see some pictures of some Stripers being landed in the new rig...she's gotta get broken in sooner or later and that fish slime and blood will clean right up:D

Good luck fishin'/vacationin' and make sure you've got a qualified first mate to take over the helm after the White Russians are being poured:)

Hey, She looks really good. I have a few questions. I have to purchase a paint set up. I'm looking at a HVLP gravity feed. What do you recommend, and where's a good place to order the graphics? Any help is appreciated!

Re: 66 Starcraft Sunchief Re-Build

Ok just a quick update via the blackberry. After a solid week trying to correct a bad carb rebuild we have lost compression in the number one cilynder. The boats out of the water and the head wll be coming off next week upon our return. I think we blew a head gasket somewhere betwee number one and number two.

NB good to hear from you I was about to have Kev send out the Crownvic to check up on you :D. Sorry to hear about the troubles with her but I also know you will get the mechanicals ironed out to match the looks of her and she will run as good as she looks :D. We have started planning a little get together for the Starcrafters next summer and I hope to see you and the Liquid Limo there :D.

Re: 66 Starcraft Sunchief Re-Build

We took ours out sitting on lawn chairs on a rotten deck to make sure we were happy with it before I invested in the interior materials. When I punched it my dad fell out of his lawn chair so we decided it was a runner.
