UM NB not to be the one to rain on anybodies parade but that head should have 8 vlves in it total and I would think they would have done all 8 while they were in there :D. I just dont want you having to pull it back off again anytime soon .

I don't think the exhaust valves need that proceedure, or is it the opposite?

Re: 66 Starcraft Sunchief Re-Build

Well..
Since I will prob come across this myself I have spent about an hour researching and the answer is yes..exhaust valves need to be hardened or SS seats due to lead free fuel..

heres one of many quotes I have been reading..

EXHAUST-VALVE-SEAT CONSIDERATIONS
In the 1960s, all gasoline contained tetraethyl lead, which was an easy way to increase the octane number. The lead oxide from the burned tetraethyl lead left a coating on the exhaust valve seat that provided protection from wear. If racers are using an older engine that does not have hardened exhaust valve seats, they should use an aftermarket lead substitute. If they are getting ready to do a valve job on that 1960s car, they should have hardened seats installed so they don?t have to mess with additives.

Re: 66 Starcraft Sunchief Re-Build

Everything I read really pointed to the exhaust valves..
I will keep reading and double check...

But..
If ya ran a lead additive every 3 tanks or so do you think it'd be ok?

I heard from a friend that the marinas sell some hoodoo voodoo stuff you can dump in your tank to take care of that. I just assumed we had the hardened seats in my boat.

I Am New To This Forum Or Any Other But It Is The Most Pertinent To What I Am Undertaking. I Am On Georgian Bay In Parry Sound Ontario On Georgian Bay, I Have A 1978, 22 Ft Islander With Hardtop That Will See Me Through Another Year Or So. But I Have Just Aquired For 1500 Cdn Dollars A 25 Ft Chieften Which Is Going To Be A Three Year Project. All The Wood Works Have To Be Replaced. The Drive Looks Great, And The Engine Well We Will See Next Week. I Hope To Post Some Pictures Later. The Forum Has Been Most Encouraging For Me To Take On This Project. :) The Starcraft Owners Get Together Sound Like A Fantastic Idea If You Would Let A Canuc Come Down And Join In. Im Holding Nb Responsible If This Works Out. As He Did A Wonderful Job On His. If He Would Only Get The Engine Running.

Peter, Welcome to iboats and lets see some pics of them boats!

Guys. You know something me and my friend with the Orlando Clipper talk about all the time. How come I've NEVER seen another picture of a Sunchief? I know they only made them for three years, but you'd think somebody some where has one. I've never seen one on the nationwide craigslist, ebay, or here?

What's up with that? Do I have the only one?

Yeah Rick, it's just kinda weird that I haven't seen another one anywhere.......

Maybe it was just an unpopular boat?

They seem to be rare, but there was one on ebay about two months ago. The chieften is a massive boat. It was up in Wisconsin so i didn't even consider going after it. I think it brought around 1200 bucks, but it was in pretty good shape hull wize.

Re: 66 Starcraft Sunchief Re-Build

The only mjor differance I have seen is NB's boat has a hatch on the bow deck and the Holidays didnt have a hatch up there other thn that there may be small differances I havent spotted but the basic hull seems the same.
