Re: 66 Starcraft Sunchief Re-Build

sschefer I would be willing to bet you could find some poor soul with a 115 that would be willing to trade you for the 150 fairly easy by putting an add on craigslist :D. I have to ask though is it the weight thats a problem or the horsepower since you can always dial the power down.

Rick
Rick, the 150 is a crate engine, brand new. There's a lot of stuff on the 150 that's not needed for the 115 and there's a big diff in price. I just got off the phone with the dealer and they are willing to take it back for a restocking fee. It's worth it to me.

Re: 66 Starcraft Sunchief Re-Build

OK folks we spent about 5 hours out in the sun in front of the boat repair guys place swapping the old carb for the remanufactured one.

A couple of things to note for all of you 110 HP owners out there. The replacement carb that everyone lists (even the folks here at iboats) is exactly identical to the replacement carb for the 120 HP mercruiser. The 110 carb has a push type linkage and the 120's evidently have a pull type. Sounds like not much of a big deal but it worked us for a little while. I had to completely remove the linkage and Macguyver a whole new setup. As a result, I now have tighter linkage, more throttle response and it appears, a tad more throttle. Also, the fuel line in is in the front on the 110 HP model and the 120 HP model is on the side and much larger with a stupid inverted flair fitting! All of the reasons above are why we did the swap out in the sun in front of the repair shop. So we'd have access to all his "junk" parts inventory:D

So we got everything installed, tweeked, and re-tweeked and we're off to the lake for another shakeout run..............

I know I'm gonna get quoted sometime tomorrow as saying" But it ran just fine in the driveway!"

Wish us luck!!!!!!!

Re: 66 Starcraft Sunchief Re-Build

Sorry Andy! Must have just missed you this morning.

Well, it looks like my troubles are over. The rebuilt head and Re-man'd carb worked flawlessly today. We ran about 3/4 of a tank thru her with no problems whatsoever!!!!!!

Looks like we bumped our top end up just a little also. My GPS was clocking 29 mph and the tach was reading 3600 rpms. No trouble starting and running smooth.

Here's a couple of really bad videos. I'm still not sure what happened here.

NB did you do that on purpose with uTube.. The E-Tech vs. Yamaha video was the first choice after yours.. First I get a cool shot of your boat and then I get to watch an E-Tec blow away a Yamaha. My Sunday is now complete!

Yeah Andy. If ya ride in my boat, ya gotta get out, take a few pictures, and I'll give you a ride back to the marina:eek:

We were beached on an island.

haha!

i want to get a few "in motion" pics and videos, problem is there is no where to do so. we beach at a sand bar all the time, but its too far to deeper water that is not no wake zone... about 100 yards out... too far to take video. and near the launch is all no wake zone, so im not sure where to do it.

Maybe you'll have to take 2 boats. Or we'll set up a video taking session at Anna next year.

And btw, it's really tickin me off that I can't get some decent video runnin here.
