70hp johnson stalls only at idle

Like the title says. If I leave the warm up lever on it will keep running. If it stalls at idle, i need to put the full choke on to start it back up. It will run with warm up lever down only if i have it in gear and giving gas. 1975? Johnson 70hp 3 cylinder. BTW Compression test was EXACTLY 130 PSI across all three cylinders.

sounds like either dirty carb, or idle speed stop screw needs adjusting. you should be idling, in the water, in gear, 650-750 rpms. great compression, have you check spark and all 3 cylinders?

I am doing that today (checking spark). I am changing plugs because they looked bad....black. I will check the spark at that time.

BTW BEAUTIFUL dog. Pure Siberian? As soon as I move out of my twinplex (too small) I will be getting one of my own.

Hi i have a 1974 checkmate boat with a 1984 235 evinrude outboard. When ever the boats trim is all the way down and its running at idle it cuts out. what can i do to stop this problem
