Just a quick demo, with the multimeter attached, was able to check calibration measuring resistance. All the gauges checked out good.
The speedo was the easy one, just looked into the bathroom mirror and blew into the back, and watched the needle move.

The tachometer is going to be the tricky one to bench. I've read somewhere to use a 12 volt battery charger. Any suggestions from u guys would be appreciated.

Thanks jbcurt00, I don't know why the pics didn't post originally though. It seems like I have to adjust the spacing to get it right.

Re: 75 reinell v1901 project "kraken"

Need a little help here, I'm looking to test run my engine on the pallet, but I'm getting stumped on how I can build just a simple box with a 2 pole switch for ignition, and a push button start for starter. This would just be off of the engine harness of course. Maybe someone here could give me some guidance or a quick diagram. I have the engine wiring diagram from the mercruiser service manual 2. Thanks

After doing some research and testing, I got the console finished for the engine run up. Dad and I plan to get at it tomorrow morning. Forecast is for -7c so we will have to be quick with water hook up and run, then get it back in the shop before it freezes. Crossing my fingers, can't wait to hear this baby roar!

Well, good news and bad news gents. Bad news is that the intake manifold is cracked just behind the water pump, and the oil was turning into emulsion = cracked block. Good news is that it did start up and run real nice. I also got a line on a 351C from a 1980 mustang from Ryan, who is a partner in the project. I've posted in the mercruiser forum on doing a conversion using my marine parts from the 302, hopefully I can get some input.

Engine is just about completed. I can now start to move on. Next step is to build a set of gantries. I have some designs in mind, but I'm looking for some ideas. Anyone have any suggestions/sketches?

Time to take care of the outdrive while I've got some spare time in my home shop. Drained the oil and greased up the u-joints. The gear oil came out clean, and I checked the receipt I had from the last service, and the impeller was replaced, with 0 hours run time since. Kinda nice, I don't think I'll need to split the housings then to change it out.

Before:

Paint stripped:

1st and 2nd coat of zinc chromate primer:

I'll get to doing coats of black gloss tomorrow night if the temps hold up.

Thanks zool, cat yellow would be fitting, just like my D-11 at work. I was going to start the top coats, but I picked up the wrong paint (lacquer) instead of epoxy. It will have to wait till I'm off of shift.

Did some looking around on google today to find some bits and pieces of any info I could find on the boat, and found this image in a deep, dark corner of a server, and tagged on the image is the name of one of the previous owners. Good reference to see the original interior setup. Dad got some upholstery work off the ground today with 2 small panels completed.

1st major hurdle in the rebuild has been overcome. Got the engine test started and run with success. No oil or water leaks. Next up: getting the boat off the trailer to start sanding and fairing the hull. Where do I find a good fairing compound and poly paint?
