Well I found a 1976 22 Chieftain it has only been in the water a handful of times. The second owner bought a new Honda 90 in 2007 and never used it. Only ran by the dealer doing the install to prop it and checkout the install. Transom is solid believe it or not all the original dark brown side panels and cabin cushions are like new but yuck that color. My questions does anybody know what the weight is of this boat really. I know most are I/O and weigh more. The original trailer won't cut it for me as I do quite a bit of saltwater and will need galvanized or aluminum. Curious if a single axle can make it or should I go tandem. Also has anybody put a belly tank in one of these and how much capacity do you think I could get in one keeping in mind I have more space in length without the I/O in the way. This 90 has a 15" pitch prop I am not a speed demon I am guessing cruise 20-25 mph and maybe wide open 35mph ? Looking forward to working on this over the winter. Man this has so much more room than my 19 Arima Sea Ranger. Oh I can grow a garden in all the dirt that the powerwasher took off just the outside. Will get pics up soon hopefully. Thank for listening to a newbie ramble and look forward to reponses. Oh by the way already had a 14' Sea Farer so the Starmada grows here in central Va

Forgot to mention no rotten wood, no dents,no missing rivets,no leaks. My work will be much easier than most here.

sounds nice. welcome to the mob. Krylon makes a paint they call Fusion that is supposed to bond to plastics and vinyl, or any otto parts store will sell vinyl paint, if you want to revise shade of panels. but yeah, post pics. i'd guess boat/motor would be in 2100-2300 range but the old bruchures in sticky at top can give you an exact figure. tandem is nice since you can keep rolling til safe spot to pull off, but not 100% necessary....i'd go tandem if i were you, not least cuz most trailers for 22' boats will be tandem. run a search for "chieftain belly tank" as several here have done that. boat is actually a little underpowered and i think 35mph would be pretty optimistic with 90hp on a 22' hull, even a modern prop-rated 90hp. i'd guess more like 27-32.

details...what did that "barn find" run you????? we need this info to know the range these boats are running.....I also doubt you could get 35 MPH out of that 90 hp.... I bet that big wind stopping block front end will cut 5 mph off an exact same hull, same weight boat with out the cabin!!......bob

We need some photos of this gem!

Yah, that 90 will be under powered really.

For a belly tank, you can check out the Islander thread to see how I squeezed in dual tanks sub deck for 60+ gallons worth of go go juice.

You'll want to do what you can to get that boat to ride on a tandem axle trailer. A single would probably do but a tandem would be much better.

That boat fully loaded should be in the 2500 - 3000 range give or take.

60 gallons @ current prices = but with that frugal motor, you could troll for a week on 60 gal

the good news is that most any trailer physically big enough for your boat will take the weight, since it weighs a lot less than the glasser the trailer was likely designed for.

Sounds like you scored yourself a good find. Good luck with her.......and quantities of pics inside and out are necessary. As they say, a picture says a thousand words.

How do you think these words taste: "Cosmetically the boat leaves little to be desired yet once the motor is serviced and electrical is brought up-to-speed, the rig is fully functional. "

...functional as a boat anchor or yard-art maybe

Must have pictures and price for this barn find!!!!!!! Although I'm only 45% done with my SS180 rebuild I was out looking at Islanders today, so I've gotta see pics of this awesome score to drool over.

BF, you just gotta think of the hull as being part of the electrical....esp in your boat the Galvanic Titanic :D

Eat your hearts out you bunch of pirates arrrrrgh. Can't wait for the weather to cool down and start on this. Need to come up with some kinda little radar arch or hard top to mount my radome on. I am gonna switch my Garmin 4208 with GMR 18 radar from my Arima to this boat unless I don't like it after running it. If ( very slight chance I think ) after running it I decide to stick with the Arima I will give you guys first shot at it.

Ok, i'm jealous. but that roundy honda just looks wrong on that all-right-angles 70s boat. tell ya what: since you're a new member of the Starmada, i'll swap you a proper period outboard (100hp Chrysler, chills beer too) for the Honda and i'll even cover the shipping. :D
