Re: 77 Starcraft Holiday 18 i/o - rebuild with pics galore

Now some pics of the wired up fuse block, wiring harnesses going in, switches getting wired, etc. It's not that bad at all as long as you can trace a wire to see where it goes from your existing panel, etc. I'm glad I tore mine down as there were grounds to the hull, all over the place. Each ground wire should be going back to the neg on the battery or a neg bus bar, etc...not connected to the body like a car.

It's more expensive to buy it wired up but by the time you buy the marine wiring, connectors, etc here in Canada you are better off just buying the kit in the US and plugging it in. Mine was the issue with time and not being to easily get the wire, etc locally.

Thanks guys. I'm heading out with my 10 year old to wire in the switches for the courtesy and docking lights. He comes in handy handing me the tools, etc when I'm crawling around under the bow :)

He'll also help me with his opinion on how I route the wires and how it looks when it's done.

Hopefully I'll light it up tonight and post some pics.

Nothing more important than the advice & help from your child.:) I am sure you know these are the things memories are made of. Even things you think are small, he will remember. Keep him interested and he will let you know when you mess up. LOL:D

Oh the joys of young helpers. I remember changing the clutch cable on my Norton - the clutch lifting mechanism is hidden inside the right hand side of the box under a cover which has two allen head bolts to hold it on. I had my tools set up next to me. I asked my very helpful eldest boy who was about four at the time to pass me the "smallest allen key in the toolbox." This he did.

I undid the bolts and removed the cover. The I went over to the garage bench to get the new clutch cable and went back to the bike. I removed the old cable and fitted the new one. I then put back the cover, hand started the two bolts and asked my eldest for the allen key.

"It's inside the bike Daddy!" were his words... yep, eldest boy had "posted" it into the gearbox through the cover. Oh joy! :(

Thank goodness for magnets! Sorry to hijack Sprinter, but I loved working with my kids on things and I'll always cherish those memories. Good luck with the rest of the rewire! :D

Those magnets are a life saver. I'll have to get another one as I could have used one today. I used a small piece of wire to get at a screw that fell in an awkward place :)

I managed to get the docking lights and courtesy lights wires hooked up to some old switches I pulled from another console.

So far when I flip the switches I get, nav light, stern light, bilge pump auto and manual, courtesy lights and docking lights. I'll have to order a grouping of new switches that have an accessories switch and stereo.

Sorry about the pics...in night time mode the camera keeps the lens open and long time.

I added a bow and stern courtesy light that is the same as my docking lights. I think I could work on something now if she ever broke down...shouldn't ever happen though :)

I managed to run almost all the wiring in looms and tied them off. As a reward I hooked the battery up and tested everything including my trim guage and even turned the engine over. Looks like I hooked it up right :)

One shot of the heat shrink wrapped connections.

I did the bow area too and ran those wires under the support...all in looms as well.

Some of the nuts holding the connections on solenoids, etc will get replaced and done using liquid tape.

Very nice Sprintst. With my luck I would get it all together and then smell an electrical fire:mad: I bet you were happy when everything worked. One more step done!

I just took the little guy out to test the horn and flick the lights on. He was digging it.

I originally thought the stern light was not working but I did not seat the pole properly. So far so good...

Just a bit more cleanup of tying off the stuff under the dash and it is all done for now.

I'll take some pics of the bracket for the bilge pump. It already starting reacting with the hull so I'll need to replace it in alum on Sunday...

Tomorrow is some more wiring loom cleaning up and then it's done.

I took the little guy fishing ay Carson Pegasus provincial park and caught 8 rainbows in a couple of hours from shore. Worms and yellow power bait was the trick. Spent most of the time rigging up. The fish were stealing our bait but I switched over to some crazy sharp japanese hooks that did them in. (GAMAKATSU) You can set them in your finger nail if you're not careful.

I'll post the pics later. Hoping to use the boat there next year...

A good day well spent Sprintst. I remember taking my two girls when they were tadpoles. They loved playing with the minnows in the bucket. They would take one out, squeeze it 'till their wittle eyes would pop out, then say 'its dead daddy". Grab another and do it again.
OK I exaggerate a little, but we had fun.

The kids always love the whole minnow capturing we have done at other lakes as well. :)

This was the first time he hauled one in start to finish... He wanted me to take over so we could land them but I let him do it they were staying on with the good hooks.

Got up at 5:30 left town at about 6 after coffee pickup and was there somewhere between 7:30 or 8. We were the first ones there. We are in grizzly country in that area but it's in a park so hopefully they will stay away. I didn't pack my shotgun like I usually do :)

It was a good but a long day. Got home at 3 took a power nap and watched the UFC where we watched Lesnar take a beatdown.

The wife cooked some of the fish up and they were amazing.

Did a few minutes work today. I pulled the galvenized bracket that was holding the bilge pump. Tomorrow I'll replace it in alum and finish tying off the last of the the wiring.

I hooked up the battery and raised the leg as I'll be moving the boat for Halloween. It was cool seeing the guages lit up from under the tarp :)

It's the little things that keep us going huh sprint! Just that quick shot of what things will be like at the end. Just a snapshot of completion to keep us motivated, eh!:)

Next spring the stereo goes in so I can have some tunes as I'm working. :)

It is the little things that keep us going until she's floating :)

Today is tidying up some of the wiring, replacing some of the nuts on the electrical and and dragging her off after I bolt in the replacement bilge bracket.
