Here she is sitting on the bunks. Little gap here in the back...
DSC00845.jpg

Big gaps up front.
DSC00846.jpg

Guess I should have taken into consideration that the hull is actually cureved eh?
DSC00847.jpg

She rocked a little side to side, so I cut my last 2x6 to make some "stands" Not really bearing any load, just keeping things in check.
DSC00848.jpg

Withe the greean house back in place. I forgot to remove this before putting the gantry in fron of the boat. Decided to flip it over the boat, needless to say it did not fair well.....I tightend up the plastic so it doesn't hold water.
DSC00849.jpg

All in all a very productive weekend.

Now what are the thought out there? Do I need to address the bunks not touching in the fron and the little bit in back?

I should have listened to Decker83 and flipped her to make the bunks....oh well...hind sight....

I don't think I'd be overly concerned about the back too much, possibly slip a few extra layers of carpet in under the rear & on top of the bunks.

The front I'd probably cut back the outer bunk board carpet & all to near the 5th back vertical 'stud':

Then reinstall it angled up along the hull:

or in 2 separate pcs

All looks good to me though!

Not the best pic but I made my bunks pivot. I know yours is bigger and heavier but maybe doubling up on em would be effective.

That cradle could support a battleship! I'm at the point of building one as well though it won't be that extravagant!

cradle looks great. As suggested I may shim it up a bit in the back, the front though I don't think I'd worry about.

Hey Troop.
OMG, I have been gone for 3 weeks, come back and see what you are doing. Holy Smokes, I am more than impressed, I am in absolute AWE.
I will be getting back to working on my Glasply as soon as the wife and I get "settled" back into our home.
I just don't handle being gone very well. Getting too old and set in my ways I guess.
QUESTION:
Did you notice any flexing of the hull while you were flipping it over?
Well, you sure as h---, got everyones attention with your rebuild.
Well done.

Gotta agree with all before, that looks fantastic, very nice job...
I too, would maybe stuff a little extra carpet at the rear.
Only if you notice a lot of flex in the front, when you are bangin around in there, would I worry 'bout some extra support...
prolly in the way of some carpet strips too...
Really liked the one handed levitation...

Hope I got everyone, If I left you out, it was not intentional.....

WoG - I have looked at your pics a hundred times, never noticed how you did those bunks and how they pivot, very inGenious. It took that many times to see the floor jack in the one in the yard where the front whelels look suspended in mid air. I kept thinking you had photoshopped it or something :)

I was looking at the gantry you built for the GT, Nice setup.... and Thanks

Plenty of support for an empty hull.

She isn't going anywhere for sure, though I may do some rework this weekend....not decided for sure.

Thanks EZ - I saw some shims at Lowes, for installing door frames. I think those will do nicely. I'd make my own if I had a bandsaw.

There is Mr. Harness! Has it been three weeks already? Thank you for the compliments, I am not worthy.

Anxious to see you get back to your project.

In answer to your question. I did not flip the boat yet. Just picked her up and slid the bunks under. There was zero flexing, so I wouldn't expect any when I do flip it. I did however see the bunks pushing in on the V of the hull when I set her down. I will make sure I put the trailer back under or place supports under the ganwhales and take it off the V before I glass the bottom.

I have been toying around with several ideas on how I will flip the boat. That is how I got the gantry in the front of the boat to get the bunks installed. Originally I was going to lift from the rear and pull the trailer out. sliding sectioins in one at a time. Once I changed my mind on lifting from the bow and putting a floor jack under the transom I decided to put them all together. Way too many sections really, but it works. One of the ideas I am working on is to build a tripod, anchor it good, then use a sling to connect to the rear eyes on transom, pick up the front with gantry and flip her in mid air. I will put something together like Wood did for his, I like the design now that I see how it is.

Gotta agree with all before, that looks fantastic, very nice job...

Thanks GT. I was standing out on the bow taking the hoist down and she rocked , felt like I was in the water!

Neat trick eh?

Man what a cradle you have built yourself. It looks really good.

As far as the gap between the hull and cradle I would check a few things out. When you put the cradle together on the porch deck everthing was nice an flat. It looks like your yard is fairly flat were the boat is setting on it but do you have any high spots in the yard there. With the 2x4 laying flat with the 4" side on the ground your cradle could have bowed alittle with high spots on the ground and all the weight of the boat pushing outward on the 2 middle bunks. You might want to check to see if any of the 2x4's or bowing from port to starboard side. You can pull a line across them and see. If they are you could shim them up from underneath between the ground and the 2x4 to see if you can remove the gap. You could also pull a line from the bow to the stearn to check if they or all in line to.

My next really BIG question is (pause for a moment) What are we going to do with all those 2x4's left over after the boats or done. (LOL) I may add a room on my house.

Ah, hello, 2nd project boat of course, duh:rolleyes::eek:

Actually, his high spots in the yard comment is a possibility too.

Re: '78 Ebko Lebaron - Therapy

Thanks Decker. Prety sure the yard is flat there. I was able to pull it under the boat by myself. It was late in the day, if there was a hump I would not have been able to get it pulled over it :)

I like the idea of checking them though. I will do that tomorrow. I plan on going out and taking some measurements for materials needed for the glassing.

My wife asked if I was going to burn them in the fireplace...not I told her..she doesnt know you can't burn pine in a fireplace. I'll find something to do with them. Like GT mentioned earlier, I can keep it for a 2nd boat :)...although it is a good start for a shop...

Re: '78 Ebko Lebaron - Therapy

So I got a little done tonight. More measuring in the boat and got the trailer sketched out and measured too.

Wish I would have pulled the trailer out before making the "Battle Bunker" - Very informative as you can see here, the bunks on the trailer curve in as well as raise in the front.

Just me or is that first set of side rollers itching to scratch and dig into the hull? I suppose they would be alright as long as you have a deep enough ramp at the lake.
DSC00850.jpg

This roller here was not spinning too well.
DSC00851.jpg

This one doesn't spin at all...hmm I wonder why?
DSC00852.jpg

Brake cylinder is a little rusty, will have to get that cleaned up. Chains too. The mechanism to actuate the rod didn't seem to be working up to snuff....will look into that too.
DSC00855.jpg

Rus on the union block and line/hose fittings.
DSC00856.jpg

Wheel cylinder rusty, not sure what I will find on the brakes.

The boat/trailer took a 1000 mile trip on new tires. The tires on the axle with brakes both have feathering or cupping.
Both on the inside of tread.
Left tire, hard to see it in this pic.
DSC00853.jpg

Easier to see it her, this was taken from the inside looking out.
DSC00854.jpg

And this is the right side.

I need to remake the wheel well pieces for the inside of fenders. I would think these need to be wrapped in glass, seeing they will be in the weather. Same goes for bunks. Thoughts?

Trooper....

I just read through this whole thread, and I cannot believe I missed this thread for three months. You are doing an awesome job, and I think this boat will be better than new. I know know exactly what you are going through, so if you have any questions please PM me.

One question, and you may have addressed this. Did you know this boat needed rest when you bought it?

Take it easy, and I will be following for sure from now on.

Now this is weird!!! Were your ears burning Frisco? I am actually on your blog watching a vid right now...

Nice find on the Bravo BTW.

I was not aware that the boat needed the amount of repairs it is turning into. Not complaining though, I am having a blast and learning tons!

Thanks for stopping by. I'm sure I will need help as things progress.

Whoo hoo - #300 - I never would have believed this thread would be doing what it is. Thanks Everyone!
