And finally, you could also make it convertible...a removable casting deck with a built-in livewell, maybe??? Properly structured, it could even support a fishing chair...
There I go, thunkin agin...

I was thinking about a live well too...could work...

Re: '78 Ebko Lebaron - Therapy

Hey folks, been a few days since my last update. I have the transom wood cut out, ready to glue it together.

Do I need to turn the pieces 90 degrees so that the facing ply is going against the grain to one another?

I will be using Titebond 3 glue, any prep needed?

I will be using screws around the perimeter where the scrap will be and on the inside where the hole for the outdrive will be.

On top of that will be boards used as clamps.

Hey Troop,

Cool, glad to hear your transom lamination is up...

Personally, if you are planning to use WOG's Transom clamps to hold the Transom plates in when you attach them to the hull, I would recommend NOT drilling a bunch of screws into your nice new ply and use the clamps, just drill'em like I did for the first go around and clamp it...

Then just re-drill to use as the transom clamps...

They took a couple of hours to make and I luv'em!
These things work great and will definitely be in my future wood working arsenal of tools...

I will be using Titebond 3 glue, any prep needed? Clean & Dry:cool:

Then GT1M's clamp suggestion, w/ enough but not too much clamping pressure...W/ clamps or screws, don't ignore clamping/screwing across the center areas (esp as you mention in the keyhole) of both length & width...

Glad to see there were no upside down hulls seen floating off your property:D

Good luck knocking it down over the weekend!

For my 2 cents worth the ply would be stronger laying down the long way on all layers. Thats why they don,t turn ply parallel with roof trusses. I may be wrong .

Thanks fellas, nothing like a quick affirmation. BTW - screws are all going in scrap, no holes in my transom :)

BTW, is this a PMC keyhole surround only transom? Or full beam width transom?

The first one, I almost did a redesign and was going to cover most of the transom, but would have cost another sheet of 3/4 acu ply.

When you get to that point, check PMC's videos & info about lining it up square & perpendicular to C/L of hull. Well done & he seems to have nailed it!

Good to see someone making head way! W/ Envy:cool:

Re: '78 Ebko Lebaron - Therapy

It is a done deal now...transom wood is glued.
Bit of advice for others....this wood soaks up some glue and fast. I ended up getting the wife to help spread the glue. Wish I had used a roller. I used a bondo spreader. Worked OK, but a rubber roller would have been better.

I forgot to mention how I created the template for the transom. I had bought a small (9' x 12') plastic drop thinking I would use that. I really wanted some heavy paper, you old folk know what I mean, the stuff paper bags from the grocery used to be made with it?

Well I found some at Lowes. Roll was like ~$10. Used very little, but I will use more of it when I do the deck and for carpet, if I go that route. I just lined it up across the transom, taped it in place. There was enough of an outline from the old transom that I could run my fingers along where the edge and created a crease. made it easy to cut out afterwards. Did the same around the keyhole. Used that to mark where I could safely drill one half with through holes, then used screws to button it down to second half. Worked great. Applied a couple boards and clamps to help with warping. So far, 2 hours in and no warping is evident. I will leave this as is for a day then remove.

Tomorrow I plan on putting a second gantry up. This will be used for flipping the boat when the time comes. I have altered my plans a little on how I will construct this one. Will post pics tomorrow. Time permitting, I will also be building a glassing station. Still awhile before I will have materials for the actual glass, but getting close. I plan on leaving the work table outside and cover with a tarp. My only concern is can I leave the glass under it overnight when I get it, or should I tote it back inside after the days work?

I hope my measurements for the stringers and bulk heads were correct. I did a quick guesstimate as I was cutting the Acu ply. One 8' x 13" for the bulkheads. Then cut off the length of the Transom. This left me with 3 each 10" x 69" pieces for the stringers. I also had a strip about ~5" x 69" that I plan to use for a box to make the motor mounts. Unless others have objections, I plan to make boxes vs the solid pieces I pulled out. I think they will work better in the long run with holding the motor down . I can use through bolts instead of lag bolts. I don't see lag bolts staying in place too long over time.

Transom looks great! Clamps & screws look good too! Nice to have the Admiral help out:)!

Humidity won't be a problem leaving the table & glass covered in the yard?

No room in the yard barn?

A table w/ rack at the end & 2 wheels below, lift 1 end & roll it over next to the boat. Finish up & roll it back.... 8' ply 'table' could be hinged at the 5' mark & drop the leaf down for storage/moving it around. 2X4 braces slid in/out to support the top....

Now that is a great idea. I had thought about making it foldable (the entire thing) didn't think about a drop leaf and wheels. HF here I come...in the morning :)

Yep, twice a day this busted watch is right on time:D

I just downloaded that google sketchup program, I'llsee if I can doodle up a table. I'll need 1 too, just maybe w/out the drop leaf & wheels....All else will be the same. Since I'm not wheeling mine around, I may give it a 'poly & bucket shelf.

Did you see the rack PMC made/copied for rolling the poly bucket to pour out the resin?

Pretty sure I saw it, will dig it up and check it out. I really like the sketchup, just about as easy as doodling on paper.

I moved from windows to Linux on my pc. Didn't think Sketchup was going to work, but I got it..will see if I can come up with one too.

Re: '78 Ebko Lebaron - Therapy

Yeah, that will take me some time to get down....... The 3D warehouse of images is amazing...... I can see the table & rack in my head, but not going to get that done quick & in CAD tonight:) Glad it helped...

I'll see what I can do Sat. Since I'm 'only' getting 25yds CSM, and 10yds 1708I'm not sure how big the cardboard tube in the center will be, or if there is 1, and their weights. I'd probably use 1-1.5" plumbing/gas metal pipe... Blk or Galv...for the rack shafts

Re: '78 Ebko Lebaron - Therapy

Very crude, but I think this is close to what you were talking about.

Let me know how that glass comes, tube or not. I will be getting about the same amount, maybe a little more, haven't done a good calculation yet.

Re: '78 Ebko Lebaron - Therapy

I like the Cart, especially that it has wheels...but let me jump in and say to check the center of gravity when its loaded up with all the stuff and whether it is gonna want to tip to one side...the solution would be to put the wheels under where the most weight will be when moving it...kind of like a hand truck...
Also, now you have me thinking...yeah, I know Dangerous...

The Humidity would be a huge concern for leaving the cloth/mat outside...it could become saturated overnight and really screw things up...
Covered or not...
I don't leave anything that can get messed up by water, outside, overnight for fear of having it soaked the next time I get out there, thanks to the humidity...

Excellent solution to clamping up the transom plates, that is perfect, nice work...

You are gettin pretty good with the Sketchup, nice...

Re: '78 Ebko Lebaron - Therapy

Thanks GT, I agree I probably should bring the stuff inside. If you notice the paper in the first transom pick has 4 'wavy' areas. That is from some wood I had lying outside. Felt dry, but apparently wasn't.

It's a cool 34 degrees outside gonna bundle up and get started. Have a good day to you and everyone else.
