You nailed it, that's almost exactly what I was thinking. Just swing the rack to the end w/ wheels, I was thinking of having the rack verticals coming up just to the outside of the table legs w/ wheels. That way 48" wide ply table & 50" roll of glass. And for the weight, maybe having the larger roll C/L (the pipe) just above the table surface...

Have a good day out there anywhere w/out the dry powdery sunshine we got here....

I'd put the roll holders on the end as close to the table top as possible and over the wheels about 4" in from the edge. That way you could roll out almost 8' of cloth/mat and the weight would be over the wheels for easier maneuvering. I would not advise keeping the mat/cloth outside. It will absorb moisture and that is Bad!

JB -WoG - wish I would have seen these suggestions before I got started.

Oh well I have an alternative use for this once I get the glassing done. Going to make it a work bench - I don't have one and this should do well for the little projects I have once in awhile.

Was a cool day, probably will wish I had finished up my grinding in the long run. It is good to get to make something and see end results quicker than you do with grinding, I say.

I reinforced the table top

Added a lower shelf to aid in the center of gravity situation that GT brought to light. The grand kids were helping and wanted to paint it. Actually i did too, just the working surface. It had some grain that was sticking up. I thought about gluing it then sanding down. I opted instead to use some spackling compound, thought it might dry faster and work just as well to fill the voids. Wrong....it dried OK, but most of it was sanded away in no time. Then I thought the paint might help. I will end up adding glue, sanding, then another coat of paint on the working surface.

Added the wheels, some measuring sticks....still need to add the rods for holding the glass. Maybe get that finished up tomorrow.

No, not a Steeler fan....I had a couple quarts of paint I bought for a computer build a did about 18 months ago. I ended up not using the paint and just spraying from a can.

It didn't turn out too bad. My wife thought I was nuts. Brand new computer case and the first thing I did was drill all the revets out of it. Sleeved individual wires...painted everything...I spent like 3 months on this computer build, all new components. Was a screamer for a little while, then Moore's law kicked in...

Saw a real good tip for a table top somewhere, I think it was "archbuilder's" Pontoon thread...put a piece of cheap Masonite on the work surface, makes for a better surface to run a razor knife on, since the blade won't dig in to the wood grain and want to wander off of your cut line, and when it gets too mucked up, cheap and easy to replace...

By the way the black & yellow on the table and the computer look way cool...

I have done that trick before with the Masonite, works very well. I may go get a piece.

Thanks for compliment on colors..Looks like it can Sting, eh?

Except the yellow!:D

The way I got it figured is, once this boat's done & you've gotten used to having this as a work bench, you'll get an itch for a new project, buy a boat & on THAT glass table's build you can incorporate all the ideas that didn't make it into 'Glassing Table 1.0.

There are those here, who would strongly suggest that you scratch that itch w/ a Tinny. Drink no beverages and eat no food when in their company!

Was a cool day, probably will wish I had finished up my grinding in the long run.
Say it ain't so! I understand where you're coming from, but grinding..... Never, ever regret a day NOT spent grinding. Ask any tinny owner, they have no problem 'splaining it to you...

The finished table looks great!

Nice to have the crew lend a hand! Sorry to hear the tweaked computer rig didn't make it. Probably a screaming fast setup while it lasted. Heat kill it?

Computer is fine, just not keeping up with current trends. 6 months is about all that new parts will keep up with newer things. Hence, Moore's law.

Thanks for the compliments as always.

Tomorrow is gantry 2.0

That table looks awesome. It is almost too pretty to screw up. It will get trashed with the mess you about to get into.

Gantry 2.0 is complete.......well almost. I need to get a couple of 10' 2x4s to use as straps across the bottom so I can pull it around.

Tomorrow I plan on building a stand for the Alpha...sure I have seen some plans on here somewhere..

Have a good week all.

Gantry turned out great! I've seen outboard stands, but not outdrives.... Frisco's looked pretty good when he picked up that used outdrive & needed to pressure test it. Maybe hit him up for where he got his plan.....

Re: '78 Ebko Lebaron - Therapy

Thanks guys. I think it turned out alot better then 1.0 stronger for sure. I have a second 4x4 to lay on top, need to get something to hold it down. I used a couple of old ratchet straps on the first one, may do the same on this one. I did see Jay's stand and saw plans around here somewhere that were very similar. If I find them again I'll post a link.

Re: '78 Ebko Lebaron - Therapy

Trooper,
Your work all looks great. Just be ready for all the weight that the 1708 is. I bought a roll and it was about 100 lbs and it was only about 7" dia. It had a tube in it that was about 3" dia. Puting all that weight on one side will make it top heavy and make it easy to flip to that side. WOG has it right. Put it at the end of the table over the wheels. That will make it much easier to move.

As far as moisture is concerned, I wrap my glass in plastic about 4 times and pull it tight with bunges cords. If you leave it outside or in a shed with uncontrolled enviroment it can and will absorb moisture.
If the glass does get wet and then dries out it will not turn clear with the resin, It looks cloudy and you can tell it as you use it.
I would also use a plastic cover and not a tarp. The tarps tend to leak after a while.
I have kept my glass outside under the over hang of my shed and warped this way since last July and have had no problems so far.

That was excellent work on the comp case. It look great. Loved the colors.

Re: '78 Ebko Lebaron - Therapy

Thanks Decker. I will have to take this all into consideration. I still haven't sat down and figured out how much cloth I will need. If a full roll i will move the legs around, shouldn't be too much trouble. I like your idea of wrapping in plastic. Otherwise I would be taking it in and out till finished. I'm guessing it doesn't like to be moved around too much.

I was shooting for something different when I put that computer together. At the time everyone was using blue LEDs on everything.

Re: '78 Ebko Lebaron - Therapy

I am not sure but I think a full roll of 1708 weighs well over 200 lbs. Thats somewhere around 80 yards. I think.

Yeah that was a great looking case to start with and you really did dress it up. You could put You Tube vids up for that case.

That looks like an easy one Wood, if you have access to a welder. Afraid I will be making something out of wood I have left over from some of these other projects.

Edit: here is the thread I saw a few weeks ago that has several different types of outdrive stands.
