Maybe countersink a shallow1 1/2" diameter at each of those intersecting lines, stack the blanks & thru drill a 3/4" thru hole in each 1 1/2" countersunk hole.

Stacking the pcs, if the blanks (or 3/4" hole) are slightly askew, no big deal, and it'll go much faster drilling 8+ blanks at a time.

The 1 1/2" countersink side is turned to the interior of the boat....

PB plugs will help hold (lock) the blanks to the hull

Otherwise, nice blanks:)

Ya I like that idea JB...though not so sure about the 1 1/2" diameter....think it needs to be that big? 3/4" is the largest coutnersink I have...without making one....

Got 1"+ spade bit? Just be careful not to over drill. I only picked 3/4" & 1 1/2" to be a big thru hole & twice as big to allow for some skew in the stacked blanks & still probably hit the close to center of the countersink.

Spade bit countersink may not be as pretty, but it'll still take PB & finish smooth;)

just use the 3/4" and overlap them:

Thru drill the 3/4" 1st, then orient the countersinks. 2 or 3 & slightly overlap them, whatever you think you need to make the PB plug

Why not just drill more smaller holes? Wouldn't that hold just as well ? Like maybe 1/2" holes spaced 6 or 8 " apart ..
Just stinkin ...

Started feeling bad again.....laid in bed all day....think I will use an air grinder with a sanding drum to make a beveled edge after drilling holes....doesn't need to be that big or perfect, just a bevel to hold the PB. Hoping I can go out today, still not 100% this morning.

Eureka!

While explaining to the grandson what the plans were going to be for today..it hit me...

Was talking about a bevel...and PBing the tops and bottom edge...hey why not just bevel the whole board and let the fillet hold it against the hull?

I think it is going to work fine..much easier than drilling and grinding 144 holes!

Kinda hard to see in the pic, but I ran a 45 degree bevel along the top and bottom edges of the board....

Well....it is just too darn hot to do any glassin'....this stupid stent is giving me pains too....

Figured to do something that didn't take too much time...was comtenplating putting the boat on the trailer...so I can move it to shade when I need to work on it...but no bolts for the rollers yet and didn't want to just lay it on the bunks....so...

I Cracked her open :)

Tests show that lifting from the front of bow will induce a lot of strain right in front of the console area...willl take a few more hands than I have right now to lift it out and away from the boat....

Besides I need to biuld something to hold it too..

Build a ladder frame under the cap, use it to help ya lift it off, and leave it in place & set it down @ flat spot in the yard temp for 1/2day while you put the boat on the trailer. Use your current cradle for cap, w/ only minor mods...

If you decide to switch back to boat on cradle, put the cap on the trailer...

Maybe ????

You could even leave 1 2X long at the bow & stern for you & 3 others can each grab a corner.... Or if you can move your gantries closer to 1 another, suspend the cap from them...Unless you need them to help transfer the boat to the trailer

Troop don't push it! becarefull with that stint still in place. It may be best to wait till all your ducks are in a row before moving that cap to avoid any uneeded damage do to stressing weak areas. You may want to shore up the walk through area before moving the cap any further. Good luck and take it easy will ya!

Good call on needing to shore up the consoles....had not crossed my mind today...

The little progress made today vs the pain.....not worth it....it will sit like it is till I get to feeling better.

Hey troop,

I have wax but haven't used it (using patchaid). But, I thought I remember hearing the wax % is either 2 or 4, can't remember. But I'm sure it was more than 1%.

Re: '78 Ebko Lebaron - Therapy

Trooper, Hate to hear you or having so much trouble and pain. Just take it easy and keep going to the doc and things will get better.
The boat will wait for you. The racoons will not take it away. Need to keep your health up or nothing else will matter.

I think the bevel on the side boards will be more than enough to hold them. After you PB'em in and then tab them it will be rock solid.
Take care of yourself.

Re: '78 Ebko Lebaron - Therapy

Hi Troop,
Glad to hear you are back safe and almost sound...I know it sucks not to be able to work on the boat...believe me, I have been having decent weather lately, but I have been swamped with Family duties and work...been getting my boat fix by checking in on Iboats as much as possible...

Just remember, like has been said and it deserves repeating...

Without your health you got nothin...the boat will be there, and we'll do our best to keep the racoons at bay, but you gotta get your self in tip top shape to enjoy the final few steps left in getting this beautiful tub a-floatin agin and really be able to enjoy it for many, many seasons...

Be well...
