uhhnn, I think you did a great job on the deck csm'n but I don't think you should have missed that appt. ... I'm just a saying.......

I hope the Admiral @your joint doesn't get the Ebko Iboats updates. Cause @ my boathouse, there would be a frying pan headed my way if she saw a sample like that from me, AND I missed an appt........

Hope it's fluid intake/output related. Eat many beets?

If you can stand it, some REAL cranberry juice (not cranberry cocktail) might do ya some good...... I hate the stuff, way too tart......

Told ya, kinda icky huh?

It may be kidneys stones..I have had them before..but being on blood thinners and aspirin regimen...it will be bright red now...this came out that way...

I will get in to see the Dr...actually it was just a nurse practitioner today I was to see....Dr was out...

5 gallons of resin is going to be about right on the money...shees this stuff goes quick..

Speaking of resin..I have been getting all my resin from the same place..this batch is acting a bit weird....color is different too...but it is setting up so I guess it is all good..

Happy Friday everyone!!

Re: '78 Ebko Lebaron - Therapy

PMC - been there done that...no fun at all...and thanks!

Fanny - too late to get a pic with the plastic bags...it was a getup...decided to just go with socks after the rain quit...no sense in getting mud on this new deck :)

I'm staying hydrated...was under the plastic mst of the day..afraid I would get rained on... makes it extra warm under that...no clouds on radar earlier so I vented the top...mch better!

And Thanks...

Re: '78 Ebko Lebaron - Therapy

Well the deck is completely glassed in now..3 layers of 1.5oz CSM!!!

DSC01260.jpg

I still need to put the 12" plywood blocks on the sides of the hull..I would have done it today but there just wasnt enough resin....I have about 3 qts left of the 5 gals I got yesterday..man that went fast!

See the dark green stripe at top if that section? Tha was a bear to get those 2 layers in there...I did this side a little differently than I did the first..used less resin this way...laid both layers up..formed to fit as close as I could....then pulled it down to wet the hull..pulled each layer up one at a time...then did the same on the lower part..that was the painful part.wet loose CSM..stuff grows, I swear it does :)

trying to decide if I want to put some white gelcoat down on the deck...save the bit next to hull where the blocks and a layer or two of CSM will be going..also...the fuzzies all over the deck...will the gel coat cover those OK? I assume it will..otherwise I got a lot work cleanig those up...

All in all this turned out pretty good I think..a few bubbles on the first part I did this morning...was kinda dark with the rain clouds, and my safety glasses where steamed up all the time...I didn't catch that there were bubbles till it had dried....the sides had very few small ones... for never having glassed prior to starting this I am quite pleased...thanks to all the help from you good folks here...

Let the weekend begin!

Re: '78 Ebko Lebaron - Therapy

I think most of the suppliers we're getting our resins from use a blend that varies slightly batch to batch. That's 1 of the benefits of the higher 'quality' (priced) resins, consistency..... I can't think of what US Comp calls theirs, but it's about 25%+/- more per 5gal.

Again the deck looks good, but take care of you 1st. All's gotta be in good working order to be able to enjoy the Ebko w/ the junior picaso's (junior jackson pollack's??) in the family.

For your first large layup, you did Outstanding!!!! I would for sure roll gelcoat on that deck. You can experiment on some scrap plywood with a thick napped roller and see the kind of texture you get. You might be pleasantly surprised.

Abso-freaking-loot-ly SP, abso-freaking-loot-ly!

Of course, a nice set of these, now that might be a bit of a different story:

Tell Norm we all said howdy & keep on keeping on trying to bring back the red flannel.

Seeing how nice the picnic tables turned out, they shouldn't be too much of a challenge. Esp w/ Norm's help:p

Thanks WoG...like I said...got here with help from you all, and I appreciate it! I'm think a larger rollere will be best too as it should go down faster....hope I have enough to cover it...unsure if I try and do it in one heavy coat with wax...or do one coat to see how it covers then a second or maybe even third with wax...

Agreed JB, but flannel went out of style? Granted I don't get to wear it much down here.....but I stil have a few flannel shirts in the closet..

That is a nice looking stool BTW.....if I had a garage full of tools, I could make one of those...

Re: '78 Ebko Lebaron - Therapy

Was trying to figure out the easiest, best way to get rid of all the left over CSM strands...some just laying on top of resin...some partially embedded....started out with just a gloved hand, wiping in circular motions...worked..I had a big fuzzball in my hand...but it was only picking up the loose pieces....and once in a while I would impale a finger on glass...ouch!

Tried a broom...just wasn't cutting it...then I tried this wirebrush...very fine soft steel bristles...

DSC01261.jpg

Worked pretty good...just used light pressure...in all different directions..swiping it back and forth real fast...had to keep unloading it, but it worked pretty good...
DSC01262.jpg

I am really almost ready to go out there and start roling the gelcoat..so excited to see what it is going to look like....but I have some items to take care of back in the bilge..cut the tops of the access port holes...fix the mess around the tank inlets....I really didn't have much of a plan by the time I got back in that area with the glass yesterday...sort of winged it...didn't turn out too good...now I have some work to get it fixed..

Break is over...back it....

Hope you all are getting massive amounts of work/pleasure out of your boats...

Re: '78 Ebko Lebaron - Therapy

I'd prolly do 3 regular coats and use wax in the last one. A regular sized 3/8" paint roller should work well.
