Re: 81 Glastron SX-190 Transom and Engine- PICS Galore Update 11-8

I am not sure of the pitch. It looks like a custom prop and has had some work done to it. I was hitting around 4000 rpm before I let off. The chop was really working against me.

Hope you don't mind, I was looking at your numbers using this prop calc.

http://continuouswave.com/cgi-bin/propcalc.pl

With the numbers you gave, it shows a 23" prop would give you that performance with an 8.75% slip which seems very reasonable. If you can get 4500 rpm with the same or slightly less slip you'll hit 60.

Keep it in the water brother.

Thanks for the link.I have to be real careful about that 60mph mark. My insurance goes up big time if my boat goes 60 or better. I do not know why that is the magic number but it is. I would rather it rip out of the hole and get to 50 in a hurry.

I can tell you this, I will be installing a dead mans lanyard this weekend.

Don't write this thread off yet. i still have lots I am going to do, and i will keep you guys updated.

Hey frisco,
Congrats, it's been a long time coming but well worth it. Thanks for sharing it with all of us.
I hope that when you do complete this thread you still show up here to help the rest of us slow pokes. :p

Fresco, you have done an amazing job on this thread and to your boat! Love the vid of you finally getting on the water....success. Thanks for taking the time to do this, I learned a bunch as you worked your way through it.

Here's hoping my first time out this year will be as successful.

Frisco,
Great job and that lake trial video brings me a new shot of energy and focus. I've never posted to this thread but have been watching it closely. Back in February I discovered I had transom rot. I was pretty down about it trying to decide how to proceed. I came across your thread which is wonderfully documented on a boat that's similar to mine. At that point I decided that I could do this and then took the plunge. Now I've got the new transom glassed in and things are going well. On track for late May. Thank you for sacrificing so much of your time to document your top-notch work.

Thanks lgrouper. I learn by watching and I know that many people learn the same way. That is why I wanted to document it properly. I think I could have done a better job honestly. Maybe on the next boat.

I want to find a Glastron CXV20!

yeah, just hang out with Bob, next thing you know you'll be driving down the highway with the back half of a boat hanging out of your truck! Nice job on the thread, now if I can get Miss Morgan wrapped up, I'll see you at the lake!

Great work Jay!

Your attention to detail is impecable. You've done a real top notch job, and will be enjoying it for a long time. I love the video too. especially the "after" inspection. No room for guessing about the performance and quality of the work.

She's been a good rebuild and this is probably one of the best (if not THE best) documented thread on this site. If my memory serves me correctly, I think YOU started the whole video thing, and now everyone is doing it. AWESOME!

What a fantastic job Frisco! That is such a beautiful boat and son of a gun does it get out the hole in a hurry. I'm green with envy. Good job

Jay,
The boat looks great and sounds liek it runs great. Congratulations on finishing in time to start the boating season. I hope to be done by mid-summer. Maybe I'll see you out on the lake.

Thanks for all the love guys. I just hope my videos and thread will help alot of people.

Ok, so I cannot leave well enough alone, and I am making something better this weekend. As alot of you know I have been trying to come up with a good way to add flotation without hindering engine access. Well I think I have come up with a solution. It is very hard to explain, so I will make a video later tonight explaining my plan.

Re: 81 Glastron SX-190 Transom and Engine- PICS Galore Update 11-8

It got too dark before I could get outside, so I will try to explain.

The back of my boat there is a space from the transom to outside of the boat. i plan to extend the transom with thin plywood coated in resin out to the edge. This will create a void behind that board that is about 4 inches wide ant the bottom and 10 inches wide at the top. In addition I will continue down the side of the boat to the back seat with another cavity. These will not go all the way to the gunwhales, but stop about 6 inches down to allow for the foam insertion. All of this will be tabbed together and tabbed to the deck and repainted. Now this will not give me exactly what I took out but close. To make up for what is not there, I will drill two holes in the deck and pump foam into the rear compartment. I think this will give me what I need, and piece of mind.

OK, big question. Can I use Great Stuff for the foam? It is a closed cell design, and I really do not have alot of time to wait for the mix stuff to come in the mail. I really need to get this done this weekend. West Marine has this pour stuff, but it is really expensive.
