That is a cool thread! Saw what I needed to get going on the foam.
Now, if WestTexas and I can get going, maybe we can meet up and go fishing!

Ive actually been fishing every weekend since I started this project...Dad has a 19ft Skeeter with a similar Mariner 150 :D

Not only does he have a day job, he rebuilds his boat at night, and has time to go fishing on the weekend. This guy knows how to git er done. Also the most important thing is he manages to keep us informed and updated on the resurrection of the Stratos, for which I am thankful.:)

I just wanted to let you know that this has been a great build so far I hope to see some updates soon. I am following this one closely because I own a 1989 Stratos 201 Pro and this is helping me get the knowledge and motivation to maybe some day rebuild as you are. Thank you.

Hey Brother! I think I'm pretty much at the same place as you. Just doing basic glass work on the wood. Looks like temps will be falling soon, so maybe I'll be able to work for longer than 10 minutes at a time!
I have a question for you as I'm not getting any bites on my thread. How many layers of glass are you planning on putting on your stringers?

Im already done glassing all the substructure just waitinng to win the lotterey so I can afford some Foam before I place in the deck......

I would put 2 min and I made the second layer a little smaller. Another problem I never thought I would have is rain....I guess gods testing my glass work by filling my boat with rain water!

One thing I learned growing up in West Texas, NEVER CURSE THE RAIN! I bought a cheap tarp at Harbor Freight, it keeps most of the water out.

I thought 2 layers would cover it. That will actually give me three layers. One on the stringer alone, and two running down the hull. I have so much rovin left I may throw some of that on there too.

I bought 2lb foam from a company in Lewisville, TX. Two gallons total, 1gal "A" and 1gal "B" for about $80 or so. I can send you the info if you want it. I could probably be persuaded to bring some stuff down in exchange for some dove hunting!

sprayed the 1/2?x10'-0 sched 40 pipe with WD40 to create small channel along the stringer fillet that when pulled out from the cured foam will leave a gap to allow water to drain to the back of the boat (in theory) its worth a try

61798_1542815522643_1002607648_31597221_4941699_n.jpg

sprayed the plastic underside of the deck with WD-40 for same concept of not letting the foam stick till im done foaming and ready to glass the deck on....

experimented with "GREAT STUFF" which happens to be closed cell poly foam "BIG GAP FILLER" I guess we'll see how much 5- 16oz cans fills

placed deck on top with some weight to hold while foam rises and cures

results to come tomorrow

Good luck with the foam WTR. It's great to see different solutions to problems such as this. Nice work!

I got these numbers by filling the area drawn which ended up taking twelve 16 ounce cans of "GREAT STUFF" Big Gap Filler (the black can)
> So if Im correct it would roughly cost $130 for the same coverage as the 16lb kit (2lb density) from US Composites

someone check my math. these are real world numbers and they mostly say it all without much debate... Im not dissatisfied with the Product I chose to use so I will leave what I have, but will be ordering some foam from US COMPOSITES to finish the job on the remainder of the boat.

Re: 84' Stratos resurrection***PICS***

For reference, I used a total of 6 gallons (3 of each) on my 18' bass tracker. I also had 2 large, hollow fiberglass stringers to fill. That took the bulk of it actually. I used just a tad over 2 gallons (1 of each) to do the rest of the boat. Obviously not the same application as you, but it gives you a reference. Also, and I did not know this, apparently temperature plays a roll in the expansion of the pour foam. The lower the ambient temp the less it expands.

The build is lookin great. I've been following it. Keep it up. I'll be updating mine soon.

thanks, yah all the other cavities I have to fill are smaller and will require less, so Im thinking the $62 kit will be all I need to finish. Also I will wait to pour foam during the day, temps right now are 50? at night and 92? during the day... I can tell a big difference in the expansion when I sprayed the foam at sundown.

Do you have any pics of how the spray foam turned out? Also how did the wd-40 work?

I thought I was gonna have to cut pieces from ply wood, but I saved a ton of time and material by finding these 1"1/8 X 1/4 X 8'-0 Pine Lattace pieces from Lowes @ $4.32 a piece, 5pcs is all I needed to replace the old strip that I chisseled out, hopefully this gives my screws something to bite to when I put the cap back on.

Also found those little C-clamps at Harbor Freight for .99 cents each. Used a good bead of PL adhesive and clamped snug.

Foam came in today but its going real fast, might need another kit soon...

40900_1552373201579_1002607648_31618024_1315500_n.jpg

the pour foam is the far side, the spray foam is real uneven but less brittle/hard

33936_1552374001599_1002607648_31618031_6843170_n.jpg

another example of the pour foam rising all the way to the bottom of the deck and more uniform

more results to come soon, but so far I have learned that the plastic with WD-40 peels off and works like a charm as you can see the foam formed to the bottom of the deck without sticking and will allow multiple pours until cavity is completely filled....just another approach so I didnt have to cut holes in my deck like this guy did on his boat,

as for the other idea with the pipe.....
61798_1542815482642_1002607648_31597220_7324948_n.jpg

well not so much that pipe is now part of the boat and wont budge, ill probably just go get another one and put it in on the other side just to keep things even....

All things considered, I think you won't end up regretting putting the foam in...nice job!
