Nice! The new camera will be great to document your progress and it help to take before pictures in case you forget how something was...

We didn't get the 5-10" they predicted just a dusting and it melted away today!!
So Rob told me the swim deck has been removed and we are ready to go over that 350 and the outdrive!

I understand the wet dog thing too well :) Mine is always in the mud!

Re: 87 Four Winns 210 Horizon resto

Ok today's progress.....

No pics because it was all engine work,

Started out cleaning up all the fiberglass dust on everything
Vacuumed out every crack and crevice, started finding every electrical connection, unbolt them, wire wheel with Dremel and reconnect with a light coat of dielectric grease.

Next step remove all spark plugs, add a shot of Sea Foam Deep Creep lube.
Inspect and clean distributor cap and rotor (this will be changed after first fire up along with wire set)

Hook up battery and start testing bilge blower (needed to r&r blower and lube bearing it was screaming) and removed all dryer ducting (have new ones the aluminum ones :) )
Cleaned out vents (lots of bee hives)

Checked operation of bilge pump, nav lights and other accessories all ok

Inspect and lube linkages on carb, changed engine oil and filter and changed fuel/water separator filter.

Now the real test....turning over the motor....ok power up the battery....hit the key switch and.................................... KLUNK nothing

Well one thing left to do....get the 1/2 drive breaker bar and see if the engine it locked up....

5/8 socket on crank bolt and start to turn......YES!!! the engine spins freely :D

Time to drop the starter.... Well that's no fun but I did get it out and opened it up.....solid rust
iboats $150! Nice I thought I would be going for twice that!

Well that kinda ended the day for lack of a starter....

Repaired the trim pump mount too...

Man, I bet your heart sank a little when she didn't fire. That sucks.
Thank goodness it's only the starter.

Re: 87 Four Winns 210 Horizon resto

Yeah I had a little doomed feeling for a second but as soon as the motor turned I felt much better!

If all I have is a bad starter I'll take that!

I'm also on the hunt for some mystery wires I found coming from the outdrive and over by the trim pump....there just cut  I'll figure it out, just have to go through the wiring schematics.

Ahhh more good news....Think we need a gimbal ring.... I have some side to side play on the steering shaft so I guess its pull the ring and see what's worn out...

Well have to do a water pump and bellows so one more step.....

I can't short cut on the mechanics or the hull....gotta make it safe! Even still with finding some worn and broken parts, which is to be expected in a 24 year old fixer-upper, I'm still happy with what I paid for it.... I think were in it under $1600 at this point...even investing another $1000 It will be a sound safe good times boat :D

Rick,

I like the way you think!!!!!:D A NEW boat minimum $12,000. Sooooooo. I think if you come in under $4,000 you're still WAYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY ahead of the game. SUCKS finding the little set backs but.....your willingness to put in the time and suffer the setbacks pays off in BIG SAVINGS in the end.

Re: 87 Four Winns 210 Horizon resto

Well with the lack of parts for the engine and out drive I decided to start on the seat cushions.

OK time to start the dis-assembly

[URL=http://img193.imageshack.us/i/dscn1888b.jpg/]

Removed the hinges and hidem strip pull staples holding vinyl to plywood

Here is whats left of the seat base and the foam... The foam is in ok condition just a little mold....I'll clean it up and reuse it.

Now you have the vinyl that needs to be taken apart to be used as a pattern for the new cushion.

I started where the welt piping was connected together and cut the thread along the piping to remove the cushion side piece.

After the side was removed I cut the piping free from the seat top.

Bow cushion with side removed.

Welt piping off

Some pattern pieces taken apart and waiting for the new vinyl...

This is a nasty job with the rotted wood and rusty staples.....and some good old mold:eek:
The wife wasn't too pleased with me doing this on the kitchen table......but with no garage or basement to work in I have no other choice...

She's still young enough to get over it!! LOL

So a few more cushions to take apart and I'll be placing an order for the new vinyl tonight now that I know how many yards I need.

I will update the assembly process when my order arrives.

Do you already have your vinyl supplier decided upon? If not, I would gladly supply you with mine. I got my white for $8.95 a yd. and was very pleased with the quality.

Naugahyde is good. I'm not real partial to it but the price is definetly good. It will LAST for ever @ 32 oz material very tear resistant. Might be a little hard to sew.
