Yeah I'm sick ..... By the time I invest in the tools and parts the SEI will be less.....Not that I can't rebuild it I'm confident in my abilities...But it's the cost factor....

Re: 87 Four Winns 210 Horizon resto

Pretty much boils down to a failed seal....water infiltration in the upper unit and wiped out the drive and driven gears.... I haven't pulled apart the lower but I would bet my last dollar that will have issues too.... It's my own damn fault for not going over everything and thinking a few trips out last season and all was great....Guess I need to move to OKIE because I was a Dumb Okie for not checking.....costly mistake:facepalm:

Bummer to see the outdrive failure after all your hull restoration work.

Maybe the ourdrive was feeling neglected. Anyway, you could start an outdrive restoration thread.

What tools do you need? A machine shop is sometimes a good alternative, or craigslist. I've bought a tool, used it and sold it for what I paid for it doing the CR method.

Re: 87 Four Winns 210 Horizon resto

The catchin was great but real expensive.... 44 gallons of fuel x 3.60 a gal. 80 bucks for the tow vehicle, 100 bucks food ice and bait...$300 for Sea Tow $40 in bearings and seal for the trailer repair.......$2200 outdrive.....I shoulda just bought 100#s of lobster and stayed home LOL I have to laugh or I'll break down and cry......

Ted the sad part is that the outdrive had about 120 hours on it when we got the boat....Checked it all out last season and serviced it....maybe 25-30 hours on it last season......and now it's done. I'm still on the fence....replace with a SEI....repair this one or find a good used one....Other option sell the damn boat and stick to ridin the Harley!

RR, I know you are Really "Down and Out" right now and I can't blame you! However, you have invested a lot of Blood Sweat and Tears in that boat and have not had any of the Enjoyment. I vote you have some patience and Start searching the East Coast Craigslist listings and see what you can come up with. Heck you might find an old junker with an I/O that you could buy just for the outdrive and end up parting out the rest and get it for FREE!!!! Hang in there my Man!!! Good Things come to those who wait!!!!!

Re: 87 Four Winns 210 Horizon resto

Hey Rick,

I know you are feeling down and out, but in the end it all works out...

Heck when it happened to me, I didn't speak to anybody for about a week...including my Loving Wife...

Check out my experience and hopefully you'll get a laugh out of it...I know I do, now that it's in the past...

http://forums.iboats.com/showthread.php?t=517444

My powerhead is still in South Carolina waiting for the final fundage to get it sent back to me, but it should be good as rebuilt when I get it back...;)

And also, if its any consolation...the tools you listed, if you decided to do it yourself are way less expensive than you would imagine...If they are just for a one time use...you have a couple of options...

Harbor Freight...most are available and cheap...not intended for a lifetime of use, but should get the job done...before you buy...see below for free tools from me...

Local auto parts rental tools, some even take a deposit on the tool and return all your money when you return the tool...

PM jasoutside, I think he might have some of those specialty Merc tools, work out a deal with him...?

If any of the tools you need are in my possesion, I will gladly ship them to you and when you are done, you can just send them back...let me know before you buy...

Plus a decent machine shop can do any pressing on and off of stuff for a fairly reasonable cost...

Also, the parts list of any reputable shop will include everything plus the kitchen sink...sometimes you might just need the damaged stuff replaced, and can re-use the good stuff...get some opinions from the Engine Forum Gurus...

Hope everything works out and PM me if I can be of any assistance...

Gus
