Lookin' good! Does it matters if you use pressure treated wood vs. non-pressure treated? Can the chemicals that preserve the wood have an unintended reaction with the resin and/or glass? Just curious.

The Pro's say that PT wood is OK in fiberglass boat construction as long as it's dry. It is usually very wet! It is not acceptable for aluminum boat construction because the chemicals cause a galvanic corrosion response.

This is 100% correct ^^^^ As long as it is dry, the chemicals should not have any effect on the resin. Drying can take weeks to accomplish. And warpage is sometimes a problem unless you keep weights on it during the drying process. For me, not worth the hassle. Arauco ply that's prepped and encapsulated correctly and then maintained properly will last 40 yrs. That's long enuf for me.

I don't see where SBB is using pressure treated lumber.....

If it's the green cast to all the new resin & glass work that makes it look like it might be PT, I think that's the green tint to the resin......

Kiln dried PT can be used, but expensive if you can get it, even kiln dried it's still heavier then other alternatives, and if properly sealed & glassed, the alternatives will still last longer then you'll likely have & use the boat. If you want to make it a resto that lasts 50yr instead of 30-35yrs, it might be worth the effort to find it.

Some current manufacturers use it in new boat construction, but it IS NOT the PT you can get at the local lumber yard or home improvement warehouse. It is kiln dried, and is marked as kiln dried. It is not regular green pressure treated, often wet & extremely heavy, plywood.....

All the 1/2" ply I have been using is pt but it is very very dry . We used it at work to cover curtain wall glass out in the fla sun for around 6 months . I don,t think it could get any dryer . Best of all it was free .

That's true JB 100% arauco exterior plywood. The 435 polyester resin from us composites has a green tint.

Well I am out of resin, so time to wrap it up till spring.

I was able to use up the remaining glass on the stringers which are not completely done but almost. I didn't make it as far as I wanted, Oh well. I added some 12"wide 1708 to make it a 5th layer.

I have ten gallons into it so far. I would say 3 gallon in the transom and 7 in the stringers.

jack it up

put the axle back under

move it over clean up my mess. Done!

Ya got such a good start it seems a shame to have to pack it in until spring .
Oh well it may give you a chance to stock pile all the odds and ends needed to finish up when it gets warm .
80 degs down here but the bugs are still bad ..

I would rather keep going but it's been a battle against the cold. I'm very happy with it to this point. I do need to stock pile parts and it will take some time. 80 degrees wow its been high in the mid 40's and lows in the twenties. There was ice in the water on the tarp Saturday. Not complaining, just not conducive to fiberglassing.

Hope to be at it soon!!!!! Spring is almost here!!!

A few things I've kicked around this winter:

1. I have decided after much deliberation to go ahead with making this an open bow.

2. going with pour in foam and a 100% sealed deck.

3. Add a sump to fit the hull with a bilge.

Wow it's nearly time to go at it!!!! Last year by this time it was way warmer. We had some hail like, sleat type stuff this past weekend and the temp was down near freezing.

I have my new bucket of resin, and some 2lb pour in foam and I can't wait any longer layball:

Got a question here. I went to Menard's and they have in place of Aruaco ply, Radiata AC exterior 23/32, is this OK for the deck?

It looks fine to me, but just checking if anyone has heard of it?

From the description, it sounds like a good choice, but I am no expert in wood...AC, means one really nice smooth sanded face, and the other not no much...exterior grade implies the use of waterproof glue to join the laminates, and the thickness is pretty standard for the equivalent 3/4 plywood...
