Re: Another Florida Summer Roundup

Maybe we should plan one thing. Food for the barbie on Saturday. I'm thinking we can all bring a favorite for the grill....cook it up...and eat whenever we feel like it. Whatcha think?

On another note. For the heck of it I Googled images of "sasto" (Some Are Sicker Than Others). My photo came up. Dang! I really do need help!

Awesome plan... I thought of grilling as a "given", though.:D Just figured we'd be bringin' in da fishes, and some lobstersersers, too...:p

Did we ever agree to not make any plans... Just go with the flow and do whatever? I'd have to put in my 2 cents here and say that a day of grilling and chillin' at the tiki hut would absolutely be a perfectly acceptable exception!!!;) ...If I make that 10 cents, will it seal the deal???
Sounds like a plan. I may even bring an electric smoker in case we want to toss a few birds or fish on it!

That sounds AWESOME!!! Please do. I smoke food at home often. I've got a large double grill (charcoal) thats great for smoking, and I've got a Masterbuilt digital electric smoker, too. I'll bring some great seasonings. I'll also bring a bunch of fresh blue rosemary from a very large bush I have. I use it not only to season food, but I also use the live branches and petals in the smoker. It makes amazing smoke. I'll also prune some pecan branches and pick a bunch of unripe pecans. They also make amazingly flavorful smoke. The pecan is a mild flavor. We can pick up a bag of hickory chips/chunks in just about any supermarket and soak them in beer for a few hours prior to starting. Saturday's gonna be incredible!!!

Re: Another Florida Summer Roundup

FirstMate Carole...glad to have you here! Where in Sanford are you located? I usually keep our boat in Monroe Harbor Marina, although we are currently in Daytona for the summer. We bring the boat around every year and head back in the fall. You already missed a nice meet & greet in St. Augustine in June (not sure if you caught the thread), but `obviously`another happening next month.

It will be tought to head south from Sanford...you'll make it to the south end of the lake and have to turn around! I hope you're heading to Jax first! PM me if you haven't made the trip before and I'll give you some pointers on what to look out for.

Thanks for the reply, We are at Boat Tree Marina, Port of Sanford. We traveled from here to Jax, stayed at the landing, then down the ICW to St. Augustine, stayed in the Public marina tied to a ball for two nights. Loved it!!! That was in late April first of May. We hope to travel with the warm weather. Keys this winter, north to NY across the Trent Severon and down the rivers to the Gulf and across by next winter. That is if we make it through hurricane Irene. God willing.
Please keep in touch. We can use all the advise we can get and are anxious to make new friends. We made our first at the Landing, another traveling liveaboard couple.
Later and stay Green, first mate Carole

The Landings is a decent place to stay for the night, if you don't need to fill water tanks, dump the holding tank, or don't mind staying on the gennie while you're there. They will let you tie up for up to 72 hours, but there is a lot to do around there. Right across the river is River City Marina, where you can fuel/dump if needed. I arrived there one day at 5:00 pm and was able to stay the night for $20 (that incl power/water). No complaints from me!

The municipal marina in St. Augustine is nice, as you know. Although more expensive than the free river mooring, we like getting off of the boat for a while and seeing the town. We also had 18 people hanging at the dock for a get together, which was great! All iBoats people we had never met before!

South from St. Augustine to Daytona is a beautiful ride. Follow the markers and not the GPS as some shoaling has made them alter nun bouys. There is also a lot of dredging and underwater cable repair work going on just north of Palm Coast, but should be done soon.

There are plenty of marinas from Crescent beach to the keys, so you'll never have a lack of facilities. Let me know when you plan on leaving again. If it's about the time that we're heading back to Sanford, maybe we'll meet up and introduce ourselves. We go to Captains Cover quite a bit and raft up with friends in the river all of the time.

Best of luck on your trips!

Re:port of Sanford

Yeh, The Landing was good for us. There was one faucet working so we moved to it and washed the salt off the boat and loaded water, which was lucky for us as I had not opened the valve in St. Augustine when we thought we had filled up. It would be great to meet you in person. I will keep in touch.
Did I notice you have a Carver? Ours is a 1983 36Aft. Old, but lots of pretty wood and a super galley, lots of storage and in good shape. Our next acqisition is a life boat. We saw one that would take our electirc motor, has oars and an optional sail. Hoping to get it in December along with a lift. So many things we want we just have to keep prioritizing. The ACs all going was a bit much, but we will go with the flow.
Check out my web site and let me know what you think. We are just building it up to start posting when we start moving. It is a lot of fun. Do you have a blog or site? Let me know so I can check it out. We write in Active Captain too.
Later Carole and Skip

Dodged a bullet!!!

I got my vacation time denied for September...:( Not completely denied, but unable to have the PHO"s (Paid Hours OFF) scheduled. I don't have enough at this time; but I'll have more than enough by the time I need them. Because I don't have enough to cover the time now, I have to have my time covered by others willing. PHO's I don't have yet, cannot be scheduled. I had to speak with multiple Paramedics and RN's to get 4 nights covered. An RN supervisor in my ER made scheduling changes and three different Paramedics stepped up and agreed to help out.

Dodged that bullet!!!

See ya in September, my friends!!!:D:D:D

I must have missed the name of your site. Can you post a link? I'm sure others would like to check it out as well. I don't have one, but I enjoy living vicariously thru others!

More than that... But I'm not gonna split hairs here. We can certainly split some Absolute under the tiki hut in September, though, which is actually, and by the way... "Less than a week!!!:D". Oh, and did I say certainly... What I meant was... ... ... ... ABSOLUTEly!!!;)

..any cigar fans in the crowd?

ME!

We hope to travel with the warm weather. Keys this winter, north to NY across the Trent Severon and down the rivers to the Gulf and across by next winter. That is if we make it through hurricane Irene.

I did the the loop several times, Carol, only we traveled the NY Barge Canal to Lake Ontario. Enjoy yourself and stop by here someday, the Captain and I can sip on some brew.

YEEEEAAAAH.....Buddy! :D

Me, wife and grandkids are all looking forward to it.

Looking foreward to seeing the nlain clan again.:D

Pretty hectic around here with the threat of Irene. I toook the 50footer to better protected marina up the St. Lucie River. The Yanner stayed on the lift. A few others wanted to leave but we couldn't get their boats in running order. Some people pull in here and never leave. Never start their boats either.

The tiki is lonely. :( See ya soon!

Anybody left out there? We just rocked and slept like babies all day and all night. Love it! Our kids are headed back to Maine up the 95 corridor tomorrow. In hopes they will follow the storm and not find too much destruction on the way or at home.
Stay Green and have fun under the tiki hut. Maybe next year, First Mate Carole:)

If your looking for some peace and harmony, we picked the right time. It's all ours!
Captain, you have to post photo's for your friends who cannot attend.

As soon as I get around to it, I'm going to post some "cool" photo's of what's been going on in my busy life lately. :)

Sasto...how did the boss man's rig make out from the storm? I know it just skirted us, but it came much closer to you than to us. We had 2 windy days and only rained a handful of times.

Will do, Swabbie.

Looking foreward to your photos as well.

Thanks for the Salt Key news you have been e-mailing me. I'm hoping to recognize some faces.

The Chris Craft was moved to another marina and she did fine. As a matter of fact all the boats that stayed here faired well. We have a few liveaboards that slept good with little rocking. If Irene were to have headed to the west of us.......well, that's a different story! We are well protected from most winds, except anything southernly.

I'm less than a half a mile from the ocean (a golf cart ride) and she was mean. I could hear her roar from our upper patio. I've seen a typical afternoon storm be worse. Lots of gold and relic hunters hunters combing the beach. This region is called the Treasure Coast because of all the Spanish ships that went down offshore.

Glad you did well, Fireman.

Glad everything turned out OK. I knew you would do whatever was required to keep that girl safe. But you weren't out there on the beach wearing socks & sandals, toting a metal detector? For some reason, I imagined that! :D

I've read a lot about the wreckages off of the Treasure Coast. From Cape Fear (NC) all the way to the Keys. Very interesting reading. As a matter of fact, Stick wears a necklace with a diamond and blue Opal that Mel Fisher brought back from the Atocha. She saw it in Key West and I got suckered into getting it as an anniversary gift! I got mine back later...;)

See you soon, my friend! Just over a week!

Heck, Fireman. I do own a pair of socks.....but I have no idea where they are at! :cool:I would like to use my friends detector sometime, though. I think it would be a way of relaxing on the beach. I'm not one to just hang out.

Where in Key West did you get her that piece of work? The Museum? I need to know so I can keep Kimi away from there!

I was going to put you and Stick up in the Master Stateroom on Amusement, but I'm thinking of keeping her at the other marina. They want $100 a day or $600 a month. Couple that with my wages and fuel consumption it makes good sence. Especially if another threat comes our way. I may bring her here for a couple days if I can do some bartering with our marina. I don't want to pay for it. We need some electrical work done on the dock which I can do. If not, I have another place for you.

Yeah Buddy.......see ya soon!
