Welcome back Tagg. I would have to agree with Jas ^^^. Even though the metal is thin, it would take up some room if applied on the interior of the transom. That wood is snug by itself. After installing the metal you could apply a thin coat of epoxy on the interior transom hull, let dry, and then install the wood.

I don't have a real good picture of it, but my boat came with a nice diamond-plate plate on the outside of the transom http://i176.photobucket.com/albums/w200/ezmobee/New Boat/DSCF2136.jpg your damage appears to be concentrated in that area so I think that would be a good "fix" for you.

jas, I can't help but what how "back butter" will translate into French in tagggg's mind when he reads your post :D

Ya have me laughing there EZ!:D Your probably right.

Hey Tagg, back butter is just spreading it around on the aluminum there. The notched trowel provides good consistancy.

Hope that helps buddy!:)

You only need a light dusting of the ZC. I would think 3-4 cans would do ya for sure.

Have you guys ever thought of using an aluminum brazing produce like Alumaweld? (Alumiweld sp?) to repair some of the holes/screw holes, pitting etc?

I had same problems. I plugged the holes with marine tex. I increased my transom height to 25" and had an aluminum plate build to match the outside of transom and have it wrap over the transom and inside all the way to the transom tray. I'm going to try to add pictures. I'm in Quebec until the 18 if you want to check it out. 3054010927

Hello again everyone

The project is not dead. Even more unexpected in recent months have meant that I could not move the way I wanted.

So tonight, I return the boat to start stripping. Here are my next steps

1 - Strip outside (AirCraft remover)
2 - Watch the hull damage
3 - Fix leaks and hole in hull (screws and 5200)
4 - Glue the aluminum sheet for the transom
5 - Correct the leak below the transom bracket (i will see how after returning the boat)
6 - Zinc Chromate
7 - Make the trailer fillage
8 - Change the trailer pulls

I'll keep you posted on future development.

The first step is now completed. We returned the boat with 4 guys. Tomorrow afternoon, I began to strip the hull and see his condition.

Tag, Are you using plastic over the top of your paint remover? If so, how's it working for you. I've done it on a few jobs to help keep the remover from drying it and to have it eat a little more paint off in the process. Good luck with it.

I tried with and without the plastic. The product is more effective with plastic. Real big difference
