Re: Any Linux users?

Yea might be pjc, I have had this knoppix for about a year now, ever since the hard drive died in my other machine.

I got it to use in it, but IBM replaced the hard drive so I never got to use it.

Configuring an Internet connection

Knoppix provides wizards for configuring most of the popular types of Internet connection. To access the wizard for your connection, click on the K button and select KNOPPIX-Network/Internet from the list. Select the appropriate wizard and follow the prompts to configure your Internet connection. You may need information such as your ISP’s phone number, DNS servers and login information to complete this process.

This came from here: Link

Re: Any Linux users?

Save it to the desktop. It'll leave a little icon there. When you go to look for it in your CD program, you'll find it under desktop when you browse for it. Once you are done burning it you can just right click and delete the icon. You too, can become a poofer. :p Or you can just leave it, but it takes up a lot of space.

When ya burn it just be sure to choose the "burn as image file". You'd think you'd use the data file option but that does not cut it for this ISO file. Once you burn it, check the CD content in Windows explore and make sure it shows these addition folders in addition to the main iso file: KNOPPIX_V3.7-2004-08-16-EN.iso

Additional folders:

Boot
Demo
Knoppix
Plus a few assorted other files.

When you pop the burned CD back into the drive, it'll open up a Knoppix page. Just close it and go to windows explore to check for the files. If they look like they are all there, then just restart. (assuming that you have set your bios to look at the proper CD drive. You be off and running.

Re: Any Linux users?

Says this:
File Type: CD-ROM Image

File Extension: .iso

Description: This file is a CD-ROM image

So does that mean that it is already a image file and all I have to do is burn it without the data files, or burn it the way it is.

This makes my head hurt. :D

Re: Any Linux users?

When you say "says this", what is it that is saying it??

This makes my head hurt.
That must be why I have a perpetual headache when I play with this stuff. If you were not born a geek/nerd I think it comes with the territory. Ya just have to tough it out.

I suspect that your burning program may only be for audio stuff. Don't know that for sure but if you have trouble you can download a 10 day free trial of Nero:

http://www.tucows.com/preview/301754.html

The proper program will have plainly stated options of cd to cd, data, burn as image etc

What I mean when it says is, I right click it and it tells me what the properties are and that's what it said.

Oh my head. :(

Re: Any Linux users?

It is already an iso image file. But when you burn it with the proper function it actually expands it as it burns, giving you the add'l folders that I mentioned. If you burn it as data disk, all that you will see on the CD is this: KNOPPIX_V3.7-2004-08-16-EN.iso and your CD Drive will not see it because it lacks the boot data.

Got it??

One more thing, when I send it to my burner and I browse for it, no desk top shows up on browse, just computer and the cd drives.

Re: Any Linux users?

Open your CD program and look for the options I mentioned. If you can't find it, download Nero.

When you open windows explore, Desktop will be at the very top of the outline. Click on it and it will display the contents over on the right.

As to a Nero site, just choose the state or location closest to you. It could be in L.A. for that matter.
