Easy cure for water withdrawal in Canada. Just cut a chunk out and carry it with you.
Of course this works less well if you have seat heaters in your car but you can always find more.

Re: Anybody having winter withdrawals?

too busy stressing to have withdrawals. Had a bunch of money saved up to replate the bow of my boat before the holidays.... now its all gone, and I have 4 months to save up a couple thousand bucks to buy steel, fab a new bow, haul it to drydock, cut the old bow off, weld the new one on, finish the cabinetsand floor in the galley, and put another coat of coal tar on the underside. Plan was to recommission in April. It hasn't been very wintery yet, but its about to really go that route, which will only make the work go slower, right up to the spring thaw, and the rush, all in April....

Re: Anybody having winter withdrawals?

Bought my new (to me) boat about a month ago. Been 2 years since I sold my last one (stupid on my part), so I am suffering big time. Can't wait for spring/summer so I can get my toy in the water. Don't know who is more anxious, me or the wife.
Is it April yet?
Is it April yet?
Is it April yet?......
LOL

Planning on splashing mine March the 15 Tom, you may have to come over to Beachfork and take a ride.....71 days and counting

Man, all last week it was in the mid 40s but the boat was torn down(lower reseal and water pump) so I couldn't get out, now we have 12''-14'' of snow so it will probably be the end of March or April till I can get her out again.

Rearranged the shop so I worked most of my shut down and have been too busy to weld on my lower but with 3 months I am sure I can get it.

Sure cure for "Winter Withdrawals"? Pack up and come on down to Sunny Florida for a warm winter reprieve. We love tourist (Canadian or US). Please go back home when your money runs out.

I just knew that the Florida guys couldn't keep from rubbing it in! One of these days, if I can save some vacation time til winter, I WILL come to FL. But if I have to leave when the money runs out, I'll be there for about 2 days before I'm back to Old Man Winter and a boat in storage and a good grouch on! I hope you forget your sunscreen!!:D

Re: Anybody having winter withdrawals?

I am having a new boat built right now. So, aside from suffering regular withdrawals from boating, this will be one incredibly long winter!

I am supposed to get build pics and hope to post them here on iboats soon.

Well....you guys will be happy to hear....No boating for me the next 2 days. Daytime temps in the 50's, nightime in the low 40's, winds gusting out of the north at 25kts. Clear skies and nobody on the water that I can see.

They have a name for us fair weather boaters.....something to do with cats.

Re: Anybody having winter withdrawals?

This is the first time in years that the boat ran flawless all summer on multiple outings. Put away with everything in perfect order. That in itself is reason to be in withdraws. Usually i have a list of repairs to have to hurry and get done in spring, that keeps me sane during winter, dredding the repair bill. I just went out 30 min ago and knocked 3" of snow off of the cover, snaked my head up into it just for a peek, should have never dont that! I really miss it now!!! I think i will order a new VHF radio (cause i forgot i need a new one) just to keep me sane for awhile. And to think this was the first "major" storm this winter. At least we did make it to Jan...

I spent 3 years in FL working on a business contract. I might have had 5 pleasureable days out fishing for all that time. I say "fishing" because the water was too grundgy to swim in (nothing like fresh water).

If it wasn't a massive thunderstorm (just about every single day, sometimes more than one in a day), or opressive heat and humidity, it was red tide. The worst was hiding from three hurricanes that one year I was there.

Up north I may only get to go out 7 months out of the year, but when the season is right its a rare week that i don't get out 3 times.

To each his own, but by the time October comes around I'm quite happy to winterize and get out the snowmobile.
