Re: Anybody having winter withdrawals?

I spent 3 years in FL working on a business contract. I might have had 5 pleasureable days out fishing for all that time. I say "fishing" because the water was too grundgy to swim in (nothing like fresh water).

If it wasn't a massive thunderstorm (just about every single day, sometimes more than one in a day), or opressive heat and humidity, it was red tide. The worst was hiding from three hurricanes that one year I was there.

Up north I may only get to go out 7 months out of the year, but when the season is right its a rare week that i don't get out 3 times.

To each his own, but by the time October comes around I'm quite happy to winterize and get out the snowmobile.

I'm glad I didn't meet you while you were here.

Last look before closing up the cabin and leaving her in the driveway for the winter. Will head up next month for a visit. Midnight will probably find me slumped against a trailer wheel, sitting in three feet of snow, under a frigid starry sky, crying into my slushy beer. It will not be a pretty sight...:(

Sure cure for "Winter Withdrawals"? Pack up and come on down to Sunny Florida for a warm winter reprieve. We love tourist (Canadian or US). Please go back home when your money runs out.

I plan to do just that from the 11-17!:D

Last winter I took classes non stop, while productive, I hit my wall around February, I hope taking a break helps me mentally relax a bit.

Some days I think I'm the only crazy person dreaming about boating in january in NJ... Then I come on here:D

Re: Anybody having winter withdrawals?

A little bit of what is known as "begging the question" is going on here.

I prefer a change of seasons; I'm sure many folks do.

I enjoy getting snowed in now and then, snow skiing, snowmobiling, hunting in cold weather, fishing for Stripers and various Winter projects. There is something rewarding about being in a heated garage building something or wrenching on something on a cold winter's day.

Come in from shoveling snow, get some hot coffee or some hot soup and stoke the fire -- it just feels right.

...and then dream about Spring when you see your boat buried in snow! Haha. But seriously, up these parts, when Spring does arrive, there is something magical about it; there is a buzz in the air and certain something that is just amazing.

So... Is Winter all that bad up here? Not really. Well, if it lingers deep into March and takes a dump on April, then check back and I'll be cursing it with a clenched fist!

I got it bad, been looking at rc boat kits. Ive always wanted one and the sister-in-law bought a place last fall with 2 ponds on it and the one looks like it would be perfect for some high speed runs. Long and narrow, protected by trees all the way around. Still trying to decide nitro or elec but I`m leaning to lipos. Some of these kits are incredible.

Nitro only if you have land-based nitro experience. PM me with questions. I am a nitro guru.

Good alternative if electric ain't your thing: 2-stroke gas engines, usually about 22-30cc's (from chainsaw manufacturers). Quite reliable. Nitro is good for those who have many nitro hours under their belts. Learn nitro on a truck/car first.

Trust me. Cut your teeth on nitro only if you have a land-based vehicle to learn on. You are about 250 stalls from understanding nitro tuning 101.

Get over to RC Universe, too!

Wow!!! I was in my first blizzard of the winter in the Maryland mountains. For some reason the ole SportCraft didn't cross my mind last night as my thoughts were concentrated on hanging on to a light loaded semi filled with pet (yes I said pet) fish! Now I'm home again and see the empty space in front of the garage......:( Will April 8th please hurry???

The price of a chainsaw powered RC boat could cost more than marina fees for the year. Big nice ones are not cheap at all.

Lipo, Nitro, Gas: 500-1000 bucks done right for getting out of the gate with all the accessories you'll need. The hobby ain't cheap. Most aren't.

Re: Anybody having winter withdrawals?

I started feeling depressed in September while I was on the boat bbq'ing in long pants 'stead of shorts and thinking that the water was a bit cool for night swimming.
