So, as the title says, I live in an apartment.
Included with the apartment is a garage where I store my boat, jetski, ATC, dirt bike, skateboard, and my vast tool collection. So things are a little tight in there.
I own a 1996 Caprice, which about a year ago developed some SMOG component failures, tags are now long expired. I store the car in the designate parking area. I wash and move it about once a week. It runs, drives, looks good, doesn't leak oil. It just needs 4 O2 sensors and a CAT. Transmission is a little weak, but still functions.
In the renters contract, it clearly say I cannot store a derelict or abandoned vehicle in the parking lot. It says absolutely nothing about current registration/tags.
I figured I would save up and fix the car someday, but having a work assigned vehicle, I don't need too. Every time I get the money, something else comes up.
So recently I started getting these notices saying I have 24-hours to move my vehicle or it will be towed. So I would move the car, and remove the tag.
15 minutes after moving the car, I have a new warning, so I have been repeating these steps for the past few days.
Today I go into the office and politely ask her what the deal is.
She explains that I cannot store a vehicle on the property, and that abandoned, derelict, or non-operational vehicles will be towed.
I explain to her that there isn't anything really wrong with the car, it runs fine, just needs to be smogged (its insured, and state fee's are paid) and with my work vehicle I drive 100% of the time, I never drive it, and it is obviously not derelict or abandoned.
she blabs the same speech over again, this time adding in "or unregistered vehicles"
I explain that in the contract I read, understood, and signed before moving in, says nothing about needing current registration.
her exact words were "it doesn't matter, I'm towing the car"
I then explained to her that I prioritize my bills. First is rent, followed by insurance, then utility's, and I cannot afford this sudden unexpected, unnecessary, auto repair bill.
She says "I don't care. You leave the car there, I'm towing it"
So I say okay, and leave. I called the tow-truck, and had the car towed in for repair.
Now, rents do in a few days, which I'm not paying. I'm putting it towards fixing my car (which I feel I was forced to do)
I travel for work, Ill be gone for days, weeks, or months at a time. If its a state and has a BP station, that's where I work (please keep my employer hatred to a minimal)
The problem I have now is if I leave for work, even after my car is registered, shes towing the thing after not being touched for 24 hours. If I put it on the street, after 3 days the police will tow it. (I'm assuming she will do this, I don't know, but pretty sure)
I'm screwed here. I cannot go to work without her having my car towed.
Long term parking at the airport is $13 a day, or a storage space big enough for the car is $200 a month. I don't fell like paying that added unnecessary expense.
I don't know why she's doing this, I'm quiet, keep to myself, pay my rent on time.
recently, she just been a *****.
so, what should I do?
Talking to her is out of the question, she is about as stubborn as a block wall.
I don't think it looks derelict...
