Now this can include scenic, fishing, water quality, etc. I think the Vet's and
current servicemen & women might have an edge.

Although I love the Bahama's I will never forget boating on a unique one cylinder diesel fishing boat back in the 60's. We were on temporary duty in Norway and I met this sweet local girl that volunteered to take me out and show me the fiord's up close and personal.

The water was crystal clear, extremely deep and the snow capped cliffs were like a maze. It was truly an awesome adventure and we fished with hand lines and silver jig's for some variety of mackerel. Actually she caught most of the fish but she had been doing this all her life.

I looked up the history on these amazing boats and sad to say I don't think they are being made anymore. With a small wheel house and a design like a large dory or lifeboat they were amazingly seaworthy. Finally the one cyl diesel threw large smoke rings in the air as it turned at what seemed to be about one revolution every 5-10 seconds.

Crabing off the coast of Coos Bay OR with my grandpa when i was a little kid.

As for in the service, Well then it has to be seeing the s**t river queens in Alongapo Philippines. And tossing pesco's to them....

Out of all the places that I grew up boating in Ill, Wis, and recently in W.va I would have to say That L.B.L. Ky has won my heart, I love it here and because of L.B.L I am finally home. L.B.L is truly my favorite lakes That I can boat and camp the way I enjoy doing.

There was so many Jewfish Creek,Beercan Island,or just out in the bay(Mia) or scuba diving in the Keys.Crabbing in Savannah list goes on and on

Cruising the inland passage in Canada BC...fishing, crabbing and hiking.

Second best is Lake Powell years ago when it wasn't crowded with so many freaking house boats. House boats have ruined Lake Powell

many years ago, went with the family to Fish Lake in the Fish Lake National Forest here in Utah. beautiful natural lake, crystal clear water with a lava slide on one part of the shoreline.a mountain lake,8,000 feet up. one of those trips where you somehow wind up at the magic honey hole and all the fish are waiting for you. i remember there was one old fish cruising the shoreline maybe 15-20 feet out.
very old, apparently blind as it smacked into the side of the boat when we went ashore for a few minutes. literally watched it get closer and closer then WHAM, hit the broad side of the boat.

funny thing about the trip, the most memorable part had to have been launching my uncles boat, then watching the trailer break in 2 pieces there on the ramp. it was almost like the boat had been holding the trailer together.
while my uncle and dad were standing there staring at it, this guy comes walking down the ramp,beer in hand of course, looks at it and says "looks like you boys got a broken trailer. want me to weld it together for ya?" this guy actually had a professional welder sitting at the top of the ramp, almost like he had been waiting for us. 1 1/2-2 hours later the trailer is welded back together,probably stronger than it had been when new, and we were off to have fun.

we were staying in the campground and there was this one family that was always trying to give us fish when we came back to camp. every time.
we thought that was weird, but just blew it off as them being friendly.
couple days after we got home, we saw something on the news about a canning operation and poachers being busted, it was the same people.
they had been there for weeks catching WAY over there limit and canning the fish every night when they got back to their camp.

never have had a trip like that one since then...which is ok.
how do you top the stuff we had happen?

So many lakes/rivers/ponds/oceans, so little time.

Lake Of The Woods, MN/Ont.; The lagoon at Kwajalein; The Molokai Channel; Shenandoah River; Crescent Lake, ME and Possum Kingdom, TX all come to mind. All except LOTW have changed a lot in the many years since I was there.

I love Georgian Bay which is often stated as being the best fresh water boating in the world.

I've boated in some smaller lakes and rivers and have been in the Carribean on a large catamaran and nothing compares to the variety and scenery available in Georgian Bay.

Harris Chain as I explore my horizons to other waterways. After a year and a half of cruising I know my water and shorelines on these lakes.

I've been to KY/Barkley Lake, Patoka Lake, and Table Rock lake.... but in my mind, nothing compares to boating on the Ohio River late in the season when the water is clear and low.

Lots of places in Florida are the great boating.


Lake Harris to Silver Springs is hard to beat. There is river that you go through that is like the Amazon. Complete with Monkeys and alligators everywhere!

Right smack dab in the middle! Lake County. Near the Ocala National Forest. Lake Harris, by Leesburg was our launch point. You go north and through Lake Griffin and into the river, and I think it's called the Dead River. Part of it is a winding river with a levee, not scenic, but at 50mph, it's like a racetrack. Then you enter the part of the rive that is like a jungle. it's the weirdest thing ever. Then, you hit the Silver River, and the water is perfectly clear and you can see white sand on the bottom, about 10 to 14 down. Then you can go all the way to the springs in your boat, at a no wake speed. Very Very Very worth the effort, in my opinion.

Looking forward to doing that trip in the near future, start in vancouver BC and going up the main lands coast then over to port Hardy on the Island then down to victoria.

Last year Iboats had a meet at Lake Griffin State Park. Lake Griffin feeds into the Ocklawaha River and flows north and we make the trip once a month or so up to the Moss Bluff Locks and Dam. It's a good 3 hour trip up and back and loads of wilderness and solitude. Most of the time you feel like you're are the only living person out there on the water. Go thru the locks and you'll eventually find yourself at the Silver River which originated from Silver Springs.

The river flows very fast, so if you get out to swim, tying off to the boat is a good idea. This is my brother-in-law acting like we are dragging him, but we are tied to a tree, I assure you.

Hey! Utah is supposed to be a secret.
Before you croack, take a boat trip to Lake Powell. You will never forget the
incredible canyons . And yes it is easy to getaway from everyone. They say it has more shoreline than the west coast. My favorites, are little canyons 100 feet wide that go for miles up red canyons. Also Fishlake is one of my favorite places to boat, and fish. Dave R.
