Re: Bighoss' 16ft SS Rebuild

So the interior is done being cleaned, all the glue and paint..GONE! Good thing too because I feel like the damn Karate Kid with all the fine sanding and steel wool I've rubbed on this boat. The dedication level hit an all time high yesterday when I did it in the rain. The neighbor came out to make a wise crack but must have seen the look on my face and turned around. Another random act of violence averted. I took vacation this week to get moving on this but the weather hasn't been kind, expected to rain all week and rarely top 60 degrees. I picked up marine grade decking for my floor, literally told the guy not to tell me how much just swipe the card. On the next boat I'll plan for better resources and wait for the delivery.

BigHoss,

Git one of these to keep the rain off your back.

That thing is cleaner than it was in the factory prior to getting the interior installed, the first time around.:)

Nice work Bighoss-san. Tomorrow we take small boat fishing to practice balance.:D

There's no end in sight to the rain here this week. I spend time during the worst of the rain to polish the random hardware and caps on the bench grinder. The compound I'm using I picked up last night at Harbor Freight on a whim. I have used a lot of different compounds to buff...have several sticks and blocks of the stuff but this cheap stick from HF is the best damn stuff I've ever used. No kidding here, I was a jeweler before the current job and used some pretty expensive stuff. This beats them all....see for yourself.

So the heck with the rain. I have things to do! Between downpours and with the help of a dedicated wife I cut the floors! Man guys I can't tell you how lucky I am I found her! This marine ply is better than the last sheet I used for the transom, not one visible void. Stopping to run in and research the front piece while I write this. (The notches for the ribs and where it falls on the deck)

Thanks for all the comments guys. Woodonglass..I'm getting a canopy tonight! Huron, thanks for putting the pics of your floor on your restore thread - Seriously a big help. Jas, the boat hurts my eyes too after staring at it too long. I think the Coast Guard should find us if we're in trouble. EZ, best prep or biggest loser from the weight I'm dropping working on it.

So that's what my corner caps are supposed to look like! :D

Nice work, I'm convinced. Just need to get over to Harbor Freight and pick up some polishing supplies now:)

Whoa! Hold on now Cap. I appreciate the vote of confidence... but let us not Booboo Nanna anyone lest we're Booboo Nanna'd. Or something like that. At church last Sunday I was daydreaming about epoxy resin and marine plywood. Could explain my lack of scripture quoting and the rain.

"Thou shalt not daydream of epoxy and marine grade plywood in the House of the Lord, lest ye be rained upon."

In Proverbs somewhere I think.

Wow, I was wondering if my transom molding / trim would shine up. That answers my doubts. I'm going back today to pick up a few more of those sticks. I think they were like $2-3 ...before the secret is out and they're hard to get or double in price. Woodonglass did you polish them on a bench or drill attachment? I used the bench but I'm looking for something more portable to get the rub rail trim... ect.

Ahh, we know that without guys like Jas, Ez, Ha and all the rest we'd be nowhere. They were and are the reason we regular Joes gave it a shot at restoring a tinny. All of them were instrumental to me for sure. I was just bustin......... as you seem to have really out done yourself in quality of work and how quickly you've accomplished so much.
