Can't wait to see it finished! Lots of history in that boat, and now, years more to come!

Thanks for stopping by Keel. Yeah, I swear if the weather didn't suck I'd be close to finishing this up. Keep in touch brother we'll fish on it by the end of the summer. I shouldn't have doubted you about the Merc running, that old beast is on a pontoon boat around the corner from our place. After tuning it up and changing the impeller it runs like a champ. A little work on the shift gears and the dude went fishing.

I like the looks of that helm seat, should tie the whole rig together:)

Hopefully the weather will calm down soon enough so folks can make some progress.

Bummer on the walleye this year, many of the fish from northern lake Huron spawn in the Maumee so it affects us up north too. They were in the Thunder Bay river last week, now they are scattered all over and hard to find in the big lake.

Hi Huron, I think they'll look good in there. The past few days have been perfect for laying resin and Gluvit. This weekend I should get my floors in. After visiting Boatguys thread and seeing his floors installed I've developed an envy for walking on something stable. Yeah, the high water and flooding really shut us down when the run should have peaked. Now we have to chase them from Toledo/Maumee bay to the Bass Islands. I hope you catch my share of the ones we missed on the run.

So we moved last year from the country to the city to be closer to my job. I kinda' missed seeing deer in the neighborhood. I guess they missed me too because this one jumped into our fenced area. I've been driving every year to Charlevoix and Claire to deer hunt on hundreds of acres....back yard here I could carpet. Go figure.

Last coat of epoxy drying on the floor!!! They look like bar tops and cured nicely on both sides. Time to buy the Nautolex. The second coat of Gluvit applied last night is dry.
As soon as I get the transom back in I'm flipping it to get the bottom cleaned up for paint and re-carpet the bunk boards on the trailer.

Almost up to me :D :D! I'm not going to offer to race because you probably have a Boss 302 Mustang, and I'm stuck with the Fiesta...

Keep it up Hoss, looks great! What epoxy did you go with? I must have missed it.

Re: Bighoss' 16ft SS Rebuild

I was going to toss these as I'm not looking for a complete restore on this build. The years I spent looking for parts for the Jet makes me appreciate that some guys might be doing the same. This is not an attempt to make a buck, if you want them you can have them...free of charge just pay the shipping. I hate to toss them, they aren't great but could polish up. The first PM I get can have them. I'm no E-bayer, hate selling stuff on CL because I seem to get the biggest schmucks in my driveway somehow. Trying to keep the parts within the circle if there's a need.

BG, I told you I was dragging in your wake so I could see how it's done. I used Aeromarine 2:1 and that stuff is incredible. The dry time was fast and it nearly soaked through the 5/8 ply on the first coat ..no kidding. It was also less than most others. Yeah, the Mustang's a beast and sometimes the wife even let's me drive it!!! Sometimes.

Hey Jas, been following your thread too most days before work. The info. and laughter keep me going on this project. As a tribute I'm placing this in my bow for additional flotation.

Dood, you are stinkin funny! That is just a hoot right there:D:D:D

Heads up though, if you find yourself at a gathering of Starcrafters, don't feel to bad if EZ doesn't ask for a ride in your rig. Pretty sure he'll be skipping right over ol Jas' Islander, prolly Charlie's Holiday too. Too much "garbage" in em:)

Hey, good on ya for posting up that gear buddy.

Re: Bighoss' 16ft SS Rebuild

The last coats of resin applied and cured I am finally able to put the new transom board back in. With 3 coats on both sides and edges it was a little snug but with minor sanding fit nicely. Marking for washout drains I'm planning on using the accepted method of over-drilling and refill with epoxy.

Not satisfied with the look of the transom cap, I go back to steel wool and buffing compound on the bench. It came out pretty good for a piece that's nearly 40 yrs old.

Re: Bighoss' 16ft SS Rebuild

Between the new transom board and the upper washout I intend to apply 3m 5200 to caulk. I plan on preventing unwanted seeping between the area. Any ideas?? Another product choice??? Input from the pros here.

Thanks guys, I was hoping you'd weigh in on the 5200 before I get off work today. After I'm done installing the transom some friends and I are flipping it this week to prep the bottom. Still waiting for the Shark Hide to come and ordered my Nautolex yesterday. It's starting to come together.

Looking real good BH. I quess a guy can carry his razor with him, if you happen to run into a mermaid or something you can always use the transom cap as mirror to shave in,lol:D
