Re: Bighoss' 16ft SS Rebuild

I've been waiting for the flip because a few friends were going to help but you all know how that goes. All the excuses and whining have made it pretty easy to say no to a few of their upcoming moves and projects. So screw it...I read in Chase's thread he pulled a solo flip, it actually inspired me..... so just 5 minutes ago I lifted that SOB off the trailer and flipped it. I way over-thought this part. Nowhere near as heavy as I expected.

That's what I'm taking about son! But the friends will still call you when there moving, no doubt. (the las t friend that I helped move; I found out his wife was a bit of a hoarder.)

Now go grab another beer and put on some Colt Ford. Wait, that's what I was going to do.

Man Hoss, that sharkhide did a great job. Really like the way she shines with it. I would not mind doing that but I think that there are to many scratches in mine to do something like that. Way to go on the flip as well bud. Hehehehe, want to come and do mine for me?:D

Yea I know the feeling on the friends thing. I had a couple that said would help me unpack the uhaul when I moved here from Idaho and whining and just not showing up showed me how good of friends I had. And actually I able to pay one back this weekend, he is moving and wants to use my truck and trailer, guess what my answer is going to be. He only calls when he wants something anyway.

Anyway that boat of yours is looking good dude.

Chase I owe the flip to you brother....I just had to see if I could still do it. Heck we don't want children anyway. Old Hoss's moving, towing and handymans service went belly up with that boat flip last night.

Hey Kelly, after last night I swear if I was even a few states closer we'd have that beast tipped, flipped and stripped this weekend. I saw Jas flip method....considering that?? On yours I was thinking about the heavy boat stands/jacks they use on the big boats around here. You'd have to lay on your back but it beats trying wrestle it. Moving the stands as some parts dried or stripped. That Sharkhide will take the scratches out, a two pound can costs $59.99 and you use so little it would polish a lake freighter. Hunting season I'll be exacting my revenge on these guys. The duck blind will be very spacious minus a few butts sitting in it.

Good Job Hoss, they are not as hard to flip as a person thinks. I flipped my 18 back over after the paint job by myself with the help of an engine lift, and only scuffed the paint on two rivets at the back. It took more thinking and planning than actual doing.

Glad to see that sharkhyde produce such good results Hoss, nice work.:)

I've had zero luck convincing any friends to help as well. Just the way it goes I guess.

These boats get crowded with more than two people anyway, just leave room for the admiral;)

Thanks HA, I'm really excited now.. looks like we can get a few things done and get the floor in next week. Yeah, my wife and father-in-law are the only solid helpers I have on any project. We've built and completely remodeled homes and boats in shorter time than a 5 man crew.

Hey Chase, Yeah we made some progress today. I've sworn off being the cool friend for the time being until someone returns the favor. About to post it..... then see what the Starcraft crew accomplished today. Hope you got some quality time in on yours too.

Re: Bighoss' 16ft SS Rebuild

Today with the rig belly up the wife and I sanded and prepped the hull for paint. Then I got the urge to clean all the rivets and seams with the wire wheel. Yup you guessed it....GLUVIT. I know it's overkill, probably look like crap painted but anyone crawling under it will have a lot of explaining to do. I feathered it well enough so it's not too obvious. I should be able to store my wallet back by the bilge area when we launch. Two coats and 4 lbs applied to the inside hull a few weeks ago and 2lbs on every seam and rivet on the underside. With two people applying the stuff it was way easier. Thanks Babe for the help;)

If he has any leaks it will because he hit something. With all that glovit it should be water tight now buddy. Good job and it is going to be good looking and fun when you are done.

Re: Bighoss' 16ft SS Rebuild

Thanks guys, I know I'm over-doing it. All the years of old duck boats leaking like a sieve and huge bilge pumps has made me paranoid. In every aspect of this build I'm trying to eliminate those days on the water that I "wished" I would have done something when I had the chance.

This thread is almost enough to make me restore a tinny next....just to see if I can get it as clean and nice as you did. Can't say enough, man this thing is shaping up great. Keep the pictures coming.

The paint and primer are here ready to go but so is the stink'n rain. The next 5 days...nothing but rain here in NW Ohio. Got the paint from our gracious host. Happy to say that I-boats beat the heck out of everyones price that I've found. The Petit white gloss epoxy and the primer for the bottom up to the spray rail.
