Don't apply your 5200 bead to your transom anywhere near flipping it! That stuff takes DAYS to set up and will run all over the place if you flip it before it sets up.

EZ, I am so happy you decided to add that info. because I was only giving it a day before the flip. Had the guys coming over a day or two too soon. Thank you.

Dozer, imagine the poor mermaids disappointment to see ole Hoss standing there with a razor in his hand:eek: My only hope is that the glare off the hull blinds her:cool:

That cap looks great. You must have put some time into it. So what if you know its not perfect. Who will see it at 40 knots? At least thats what I tell myself.

That would have been BAD. Definitely wait to do that until after you flip right side up again.

You could also opt for the fast-curing 5200 to speed things up a bit.

That transom trim piece looks great, can't wait to try to get mine to look half as nice.:)

Mike that's what I was thinking too. If I'm lucky the motor will cover alot of it.

Huron, that $3.99 HF rouge will get almost any aluminum there or better. Woodonglass' came out like new (pic in previous page) he used the same stuff. Thanks for checking in on me guys. I'm coming up on painting here pretty soon and going to need all the advice you can offer. This will be the first paint job w/o olive drab and cheap roller:confused:

This thread = One of the most detailed resto's I've seen. Seriously, keep up the great work... I'm bookmarking this one to use as a guide when my time comes.

P.S. Can you land me a government job?

Thanks Clam and thanks for stopping by. After a year of reading some of these guys threads I basically bookmarked theirs and kept it like a playbook. When you decide to do yours start a thread....the info. and support really will keep you going. Heck yeah Clam you can get one too if they took me they'll take darn near anyone:)

I've been a member here for about a year... I don't post much, in fact I do more lurking than anything else :D

I enjoy reading some of these detailed threads - such inspiration!

Re: Bighoss' 16ft SS Rebuild

I needed to see some more progress so I thought painting the inner sidewalls would be an easy pick me up. I wiped it all down with a white vinegar and water mix 1:1, used self etching primer, a light multi-texture spray followed by the Rustoleum almond paint. The Rusto was applied with a tight cell foam roller and sponge brushes for the difficult nooks. I changed the original plan from grey storm Nautolex flooring and went with the sandstone. Just wanted to do a color I haven't seen on other restores and needed a light color other than white. With the natural wood I'll be adding this will compliment it well.

Looks real good Hoss, that Almond is the same base color I am using on the 18 SS.

Oh man, when I got home today my box of Sharks Hide was on the door step!! Like a fat kid with a box of cupcakes I ripped it open and ran to the garage. The excitement almost too much to bear I pulled out the polisher with a new pad and after 10 minutes of just messing around this is the result.
This stuff is awesome, and everything I hoped it would be! Let me know what you guys think...The whole outside down to the water-line will be bare and polished, underneath Petit white high gloss. Seriously guys the pictures don't do it justice...all mirror like finish.

Dozer, I knew I'd seen it somewhere before and liked the heck out of it. I just wish I could paint like you. I have the equipment and to fess up I actually tried the power sprayer....hence the multi texture aftermath. The finish was horrible and I have a lot to learn. I think the new shed we put up last fall is going to be my trial and error project.

I once had an '83 Buick I bought for $50 that was that exact color. Imagine my excitement when I found that an off the shelf paint matched perfectly! Ghetto rust spots be gone! :p:p

Thanks Hoss, but mine is not that good, I'm by no means a pro. I can't believe how good the polished aluminum looks, Great job.

Re: Bighoss' 16ft SS Rebuild

Thanks guys I'm really happy it turned out so nice! I'm going to hold off doing the rest until I get the bottom prepped and painted and back on the trailer. Also replacing the carpet on the bunks and add a roller towards the front of the trailer.

Re: Bighoss' 16ft SS Rebuild

I've been waiting for the flip because a few friends were going to help but you all know how that goes. All the excuses and whining have made it pretty easy to say no to a few of their upcoming moves and projects. So screw it...I read in Chase's thread he pulled a solo flip, it actually inspired me..... so just 5 minutes ago I lifted that SOB off the trailer and flipped it. I way over-thought this part. Nowhere near as heavy as I expected.
