Re: Bighoss' 16ft SS Rebuild

Glad to see that I am not the only one who slowed down in August on restos and posts to the forum. Any further progress?

I was away for a few weeks...no vacation unfortunately...work related crap. The vacation starts tomorrow for 3 weeks, man I need it too. The only progress made on the rig was replacing the front boards under the bow cap and facing. What the heck is the deal with that??? Of all the projects on this boat it was by far the biggest pain in the rear. I'm back now and plan on getting this thing put back together.

Knightrider2 and Rghammond, thanks for stopping by guys and for the compliments. I seriously appreciate the input. Of all the comments from friends and family, the comments from people not legally required to be supportive mean the most:) I could have beat this with a hammer and painted it like the Partridge family bus and my wife would have said, " it looks great honey" .....She's a suspect in taste merely because she married a goon like me as well.

Hey Keel, I'll be putting the beast together daily for the next 2 weeks. Rain or shine! The pics will be forthcoming..unless it looks like crap...then I'm stealing pics from someone's thread at least 3 years back and claiming it's done! Seriously pushing for the Perch run on Erie which by the way is underway right now! I'll call you when she's ready.

BTW, did you ever figure out what year SS she is?

Keel, it's a 1975. When I stripped the paint I found the Hull I.D. tag. I'm in right now from working all day on it just to take a break and then back out there until the sun goes down. I'll have some pics up tonight for ya'.

Hey Bighoss, there you are working all day on your boat in Ohio, and here I am working all day on mine in NY...I wrestled my motor out of the shed without help, got tired of waiting. Pics tomorrow.

Looking forward to your pictures later!

Man did I put the work in today Lakelover! I've stopped about an hour total since 9:30am. The Wife... God bless her was right there with me the whole time. We had a blast today and had to stop for a few things to dry. A visit from the pizza dude merely minutes away! The weather was perfect here for this, we took advantage of every minute.

Re: Bighoss' 16ft SS Rebuild

So just to kick the progress off, here's the pics of the new board under the bow cap. I pulled, cut, cussed at and beat the old one out... and felt pretty satisfied with myself. Then like a cold chill I realized I have to get a new one in there again. After staining, epoxy resin and poly...here it is.

Started the morning by prepping the transom for paint. Water / vinegar mix, rinse, dry and sprayed with self-etching primer.

First the rough fit for the nautolex flooring (sandstone). Then glued down...kinda' a pain in the arse but worth the effort. Waiting for the glue to dry on the nautolex and the second coat on the transom.

Found the perfect spotlight for the boat and a binnacle compass. The compass and the light are from a 1936 Chris Craft gentlemans racer. I had to do some serious talking to get this from the owner of a marina in Lasalle Mich. near Monroe. They'll be mounted when we're done painting this week.

Wow, a full day's work indeed! Nice job on that Nautolex. And you made a real score on that spotlight & compass, they look in fantastic shape! You must be one slippery talker.
