Re: Boating for less than $2000

1995 Crestliner ProAm 1650 70hp Johnson on a roller trailer $1000 this time last year.

.Needed interior redone and some paint above the rub rail, but was waterworthy, vro acted up and melted a piston. Got it rebuilt for about $1300. I take the blame for this since i was advised to ditch the vro when i bought it, see it oiled fine unless you were being a throttle jockey.

Last fall we gutted it to get rid of the solid added layer of wood and carpet and the rotten original wood, soaked foam, etc. Not entirely sure what i have in redoing the interior and trailer but would guess $800ish plus a bunch of time.

Hoping to finish assembling things this weekend.

If you take the engine rebuild out i am right around $2k... Of course you also have to take out the cost of dads broken leg, from hopping over the transom after the water test....... thats probably only $60-70k. He's all good now but swears he wont set foot aboard the boat again

Disqualified :p

yeah, but...that's where it all started... I basically built a boat around that long block (it came on a skid of tractor parts I bought at an auction). Once I found out it was a popular boat engine, I researched what boats/years used it and sourced the donor boat because of it.

ok...I accept my disqualification :( :D

I'll hafta owe you a pic, but I picked up a 19' Glassmaster, closed bow/walk through, with a 'Rude 140 on the back
for $1200.00 last weekend. I'm throwing a $25.00 kicker bracket on the back tonight and she's going out in the Gulf tomorrow.
I've also found a brand new, back-to-back lounger that I'm picking up next week for $125.00. And at some point, I plan
to change out the I/O carpet because I don't like the color, not because it's not in good shape. Figure that will run me
a total of $150.00 so all together; $1500.00 "water ready"

emoney;3217500I picked up a 19' Glassmaster said:
Wow that's a steal. I'd love to have a 140. That back to back doesn't sound like too great a deal unless it's really minty and an upscale model cuz new ones aren't that much more than that.....

Re: Boating for less than $2000

the boat dealer thought it had a bad motor I guess but nothing was wrong with it. I started out and bought a 200 dollar jet ski hull with bad motor. Then found a guy that needed work done to his jet ski, in return for fixing his jetski he gave me a good motor for my jetski. installed motor. had to buy a few hose lines and fuel lines nothing major. got her up and running great :) a month later was tired of really not being able to relax on the water with the jet ski. so I loaded it up in the back of my pickup truck (I didnt have a trailer for it) went to the local boat store and found the maxum. I said Ill trade you this jet ski in the bed of my pickup truck for that maxum boat. 20 mins later and a few bucks in tax's I was hooking the boat up to my truck and taking it home. After getting it home I started the process in seeing why they thought it was a bad motor. checked out good. compression was 150 psi +/- 2 psi per cylinder. Did basic tune up rotor cap wires plugs oil change. She started up and purred like a kitten. Next went through and checked the floors seats stringers and anything that might be rotten. all was nice and solid took a small core sample here and there nice wood chips. next pulled outdrive and inspected bellows she needed drive bellows, shift bellows and a gimbal bearing replaced those checked water impeller everything was good. took her out on a maiden voyage everything was good except I needed a new prop kept her below 4000 rpms. Yea a few things here and there have needed replacing. 3 months after I got her I had to replace an electric fuel pump and have the alternator rebuilt. replaced a raw water hose from the outdrive to the water pump on the motor. Begining price was about 200 bucks then I think I have put maybe 500 dollars in parts into it.

$950 got me the boat, trailer, clean titles, fish finder, anchor, life jackets, fire extinguisher, battery, gas tanks, bilge bump and bow light. Engine needs some minor electrical work it appears, and fluids changed. After a radio, launch and registration, I expect to be no more than $1500.

Re: Boating for less than $2000

$1200.00 as it sits and the floor/transom seems to be ok at least for this summer. I plan to "crack her open" this winter if I enjoy it as much as I think I will. It's a 1980 Glassmaster 19', closed bow, with a 1979 Evinrude 140 Crossflow;

Came with a pretty new bimini top, but a little light in seating as PO set it up for fishing the Gulf;

And, EZ, I didn't buy the seat, although it was new, because I'm waffling over the color. I think to add a little more color, but I did go by Home Depot and picked up their Navy Marine Carpet and changed that out for $70.00. I only "tack glued it", in hopes it's reusable this winter when I tear out the floor.
