OK, if you go straight out from the ramp I understand your lower unit will hate you. Everyone says go 2/3s out then proceed down river.

Is anyone going out tomorrow? We are probably gonna put in at Dundee and run around MAxwell pt, but maybe we'll shoot up HDG way at some point.

Yeah, I'll be at HdG with my Jonboat. I need at least ONE day of recreation!
Hope the weather cooperates.
Maybe I'll see you there, Skargo. Here's a pic of the Jonboat. You can hail me as "Winter Dream" on 16.

Never made it up to HDG, we hung around Maxwell point. Anchored on the north side for a few hours then just cruised around.
Thankfully no weather besides some wind. I'm tempted to go out tomorrow, but my tilt/trim is intermittently not working.

Billdc,
how is the Perryville ramp?

The ramp was nice, good angle. I hate getting my feet wet so I back in real close to the dock. Going out I turned downstream and went past perryville, 6MPH to the railroad bridge. On the way back I went around Garrett Island and it seemed much faster from the RR. With my 23 ft the parking was alittle tight but there are 4 long spaces.
Tried to go to the sassafrass Saturday, Made it as far as Middletown DE before my wife called me home. So we went to the Schuylkill near Valley Forge. But today was something special!!! A friend staying in Lloyd's creek for the weekend, called as said come down. So after some very difficult cell phone converstations, I left this morning at 630 for as they say " a three hour tour", but I did get to meet the local Seatow Rep. Everybody is safe and the boats are home with no damage, but what a day on the Bay.

Looks like you had a great time! Good luck with the tilt trim system! Hope you get it working soon.

Have fun with those wheel bearings. That reminds me, time to do mine too...

Anyone going out this Friday? I am considering launching solo for the first time.

I won't make it down on Friday but I should be down all day Saturday and Sunday and if the weather is good, we will be out in the boat a lot. Might make a run down the sasafrass river.

As far as solo launching goes... its not to hard, I do it quite often without any incident. Heres how I do it:

Arrive at boat launch and pull to side and go thru the pre-launch check list.
Tie a 25' rope from the bow cleat on the boat to the bow stop on the trailer.
Back the boat in the water and when it starts to float hit the brakes for it to drift off the trailer.
Get out of the truck and tie the boat to the courtesy dock.
Remove the line from the boat to the truck and park the truck.
Get in and have fun!

Good luck if you head out on Friday!

Glad everyone had a good and safe Memorial Day weekend. You are all making me jealous that i couldn't make it down there! Oh well, looking forward to this weekend!

Glad you guys made it out. My rack and pinion seized on me so I spent alot of wasted time trying to track one down (most service departments were closed in Rock Hall this weekend). We ended up poking around Rock Hall and it's little beach, which provided at least some disappointment relief for the wife and daughter.

On a bright note I suppose that now I am home I can find the steering system alot cheaper online than I would have paid.

Well, I went down to the boat after work today. They've got her hangin' from the travellift and ready to launch tomorrow morning.
Tonight I was able to sand and paint the contact points where she was blocked. Thankfully no rain.
I'm busy tomorrow but Thursday I'll start her up and see if she's up for the run to Havre de Grace on Saturday.
IT'S ABOUT TIME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Re: Boating the Upper Chesapeake

Thanks guys.
Unfortunately, I spent sooooo much time working on the hull that I pretty much neglected the topsides and interior. Wifey said that she'll handle the interior.
Oh well. I'm DONE working on that thing- well, at least for awhile....:D

It's looking to be a NICE weekend. Anyone planning to be around the area?

Arks - hope all goes well today firing her up if that is still your plan.

The weekend looks wonderful! We will be heading down on Saturday. Hope to be there around noon. Probably spend quite a bit of time on the water in the afternoon and evening. Then on Sunday we are going to have a bunch of family over so we will probably be running back and forth giving everybody rides around on the water. Probably find a nice spot to do a little bit of tubing and sking as well. Maybe we will cruise by HDG dock and see if we can spot "Winter Dream" unless you have her out.

The boat project for this weekend is getting the VHF installed on Saturday night. If that goes well, we will be montioring channel 9 and 16.

Also, does anybody know where the best spot is to do some tubing and sking around HDG or the Susquehanna River? Thanks in advance for the suggestions!

Maybe we will see some of you out there this weekend.

Here are a couple pics just in case we see any of you out there anytime!

The best spot to ski around HDG park would be to stay north of the flats, but south of the RR brigde. There is a fairly big deep area around where those barges anchor. Going south of there there is really no good spot, since most deep water is in the chanel.

The best spot is up in the river, north of Garret Island, on the harford county side. I have skied most of the river. from the 95 bridge up to the rocks almost.

Yup- no problems at all. She was a bit cold-blooded but I guess that's to be expected after sitting for 6 months. I plan to gas up at Bay Boat before shoving off Saturday about 10- 11AM. Low tide is around 10 so I'll get to HdG during flood. I'll be running to Turkey Point, then out thru the HdG channel past Sand Island and Fishing Battery to the marina. If it's particularly nice I might even drop the hook for awhile at Sand Island.

Yeah, the Susquehanna past Garrett is a good place, as Bowman said.
Also, see my previous post. This was one of my favorite spots because it's NEVER crowded and usually pretty calm.
.....as a matter of fact, when we had our 23 footer we used to ski and tube from Sand Island all the way over to the shoreline near APG. Bottom is really soft mud and 3-5' the whole way. Just don't venture NORTH of Sand island unless you're in the marked channel.
