So using that theory we should build bridges that are "just about" capable of taking the load put on them ??? use life jackets that are "just capable" of keeping your weight afloat ??? lifting chains and cables that can "just manage" the rated load ??? etc, etc, etc !!!
Hope I am not on the receiving end of any of your projects :eek::eek:

Using your logic, every bridge is already just barely capable of handling its rated load...

Please explain. Obviously I am missing something here ???
As ever I am prepared to be educated on any and all shortcomings.:confused:

My point was that the poster with the "Engineering" background appeared to be promoting that just enough is good enough.:eek:
I categorically disagree with that statement.

I know a guy that builds bridges and they can handle way over what they are rated for, they have to overbuild them and they cost lots of money to build because of that. I have always pulled boats and trailers, I have a F-250 and it can handle anything I pull and stop it pretty fast, I check the brakes regularly and use E rated tires even though D will usually do. I also go slower if I am pulling a extra heavy load even though I dont have to. you can pick up a good used 3/4 ton truck for around $3500

if you can afford a 35,000 dollar boat i would get a vehicle that can pull it safely and protect your investment i would trade the honda on a 4x4 F150 with the new fuel efficient ECOBOOST engine. decent fuel economy, plenty of power, 4 doors are roomy, higher towing capacity, bed for packing equipment ect.

i know in Missouri if someone hit me or my family and they were negligent i would have them in court and get everything i could out of them.

Not my logic. I was responding to post #55 and #56. They are actually duplicate posts so refer to either one of them.
Let me know if you stand by your above statement to me then.
Thanks,
Ken.

You have made it clear that you believe exceeding a vehicle's towing limit a little bit is a wanton disregard for public safety, implying that the vehicle was designed by engineers to just barely handle its tow limit.

With that said, why do you think bridges are built to handle more than they are rated for? Is that not what you implied when you made fun of the guy with the engineering background?

Not going to go any further into this one as it could lead into a good reason to have this thread closed.
I will stay on the sidelines and watch from here on. ;)

You have completely misinterpreted what Ken said. Go back and read.

My logics always been... It's now how much you can tow, but rather how fast you can stop!!

How about we let this thread die. Either Strokeoluck has gone ahead with his plan, or he has decided maybe this isn't the best idea, and has elected not to participate further. So the point in carrying on with this thread has no value since all sides have expressed their views.
