Re: cuddy or bowrider

A few years ago I was in a 17' bowrider in a bay when a close-by tug boat
decided to make a turn and accelerate. The wave coming at us was like a
monster wall of water, and I powered the outboard to get the bow up as I
got the bow pointed at the monster wave. We rocked a bit, and some water
came over the bow, but we survived it. The bilge pump ran for awhile to get
the water out.

We are now in a 19' Bayliner cuddy, and there is no comparison to the
seaworthiness of the two boats. They have their differences, just like a
luxury limo and a sports car, well, sort of.

Good luck!

Plus, where do you "get busy" at in a bow rider?

Across the sun deck or in the floor between the seats (just remember to throw a towel over the ski locker door, the plastic door is a little rough on the knee's) :D

Hey ziggy, that is a VERY nice boat you have there. Not one you see every day. It is a bummer that the bow is closed, good for storage I guess, but that sliding hard top is really nice. ;) Love that boat!

thanks for the compliment sc.
i'm not to bummed about the closed bow though. ya can see what i store under there at this thread (last pic in my comment)... http://forums.iboats.com/showthread.php?t=354911 :D.. it also works perfect for storing 2 sleeping bags too...
the closed bow works for me. i tend to be out when others might not go. the weather concerns me less than it used to when i had a br. by a lot. i've no idea why someone don't make something like it now. it really is a most versatile boat. and it does everything well too. i just got lucky, i had no idea before i got it... i'll reiterate to the op. there are other options and unique design boats that don't fit the norm. some may be pretty cool...

cvtech. i think most folks end up at the awning store and have custom fit covers made aftermarket to fit. unless it's a brand new boat. but mostly ya gotta fit them to your boat custom like...

On the other hand, you're in Florida. From what I hear, them cuddy nooks can get awfully hot in the Florida sun.

I have a bowrider with a canvas snap-on bow cover. It would supply shade for little kids, and I suppose almost enough privacy for a portapotty. With the canvas off, it is a nice space for a couple of folks while cruising, and is a nice extra spot for a fisherman while anchored or drifting.

scutly does make some good points with his questions, but most folks I know end up not using the cuddy much.

i agree with the bow cover. we have one, and we all know when it gets rough, it goes on. and the kiddies ride up forward under it too, they think its fun to go up and down with the waves! eventually we as a family know we are moving up to a 25-28 foot cruiser, but for the next few years to come the open bow is the best choice for what we use it for.

My boat and many others have back-to-back seating behind the windshield which lay flat into a bed. Nice to have some padding!

If you don't mind being an exhibitionist that's fine! And what cuddy doesn't have padding?

Personally, I think it's your own decision really on what you want and what you plan on using it for. Generally for smaller boats I'd go with a bowrider, and just like the looks of them better also (meaning the smaller boats, larger boats do look awesome as cuddy's, don't get me wrong)

If you go to a small cove with no one else around, the answer is anywhere on the boat! I prefer the bench seat in the back though :D

I normally lean over her...lol. My current bow rider will be my last. I want a cuddy for overnight trips.
