Re: DEER HUNTERS! Lets see the pics, hear the stories!
PaulT, that story about the close incounter was great! I would have died of a heart attack or lost control of bodily functions!! I'm always excited when I smell a rutting buck while hunting' the stronger the better. More close encounters...... I was maybe 150 yrds. from my truck minutes in the woods one day when I heard an explosion of running deer and breaking sticks just ahead in the somewhat thick fall woods. I leaned against a 10" tree and could see glimpses deer running around eveywhere. Suddenly 2 came running right at me, a LARGE doe and her yearling. They stopped less than 10 feet from me as I looked out the corner of my eye, and then continued looking towards the ruckus still going on where they came from a minute, and the fawn stepped up and sniffed my leg. I looked back as the ruckus got closer... then back away from me. Then I heard something else. The big doe, facing away from me, lifted her tail and relieved herself in a large stream that splashed on my leg and boots!!!!!. they eventually walked off and the ruckus moved away too and I kept hunting w my new fresh cover/attractant scent. I actually had a deer **** on me!!. but I enjoyed it , Is that wrong?...... another time when I was 16 I found several huge fresh scrapes and rubs in some planted pines w a wore out trail through the pinestraw. Being young and strong, I climbed a good sized tree and waited till dark. I dropped my coat and lowered my gun on a string and climbed down in the dark. As soon as I put on my coat and picked up my 30/30 I heard heavy steps comming towards me up the path. I found my flashlight as the steps stopped at 5 or 6 yrds. I shined my light into a fat cedar right between me and the buck who proceeded to snort and paw the ground like a mad bull

I thought the light would spook him, but he stood his ground and snorted louder

His eyeshine was w i d e, and seemed about eye level w me

after minutes of this he turned his head, and silence. I stood there listening for a while, then made my way to the truck having to walk towards where he came from. I had the gun at my hip expecting him to be behind every tree, waiting to attack me as I shined the light in the black woods. I believe this buck heard me climbing down and thought I was an intruder rubbing trees in HIS spot, and he was gonna kick his or my donkey!!!!! I'll never forget the long, loud, angry grunts he made that night.
