Re: Glassmaster SIL project .

I'll have to make a note here...a proper BBE {Big Blue Elephant} requires a support system made up of various odd pieces of PVC and rope, with the cheapest possible tarp available, partially supported by a wood fence, along with the occasional stick and/or ladder thrown in for extra support and some tent stakes to tie the rope to the ground and whatever objects are available to add as ballast around the edges to keep it from becoming a flying blue elephant...
It must move around in the slightest breeze, leak like sieve during the lightest of rain showers, and provide enough heat under its belly to keep a smokehouse going continually without ever having to add another stick of firewood...
See the example below...

Just wanted to make it perfectly clear that, although I have not applied for a patent on this design, legal repercussions may follow the inappropriate use of the term BBE...:eek::D:lol:
Carry On and Happy Monday!:watermelon:

Re: Glassmaster SIL project .

I got up this morning feeling like I have been trampled over by an elephant . High fever and just icky . Not being in a very good mood I jumped all over a few of my guys for dragging in late for my Monday morning safety meeting . Job Super on my case about just stupid stuff . At lunch I did not feel like eating so I pulled up the forum ta see what was going on on my phone .
Gus , your post was as funny a post I have read in a very long time ! My belly was hurting and I had tears in my eye,s kinda laughter !
 I had almost forgot that picture ! I don,t know how you handled working under there ! You deserve a medal or something !
I really like how one side is held down with a plastic chair !! LOL!
Your right .. My little a-frame shelter should not ever be confused with a true BBE of your original concept , engineering, and design !
Please except my apology's .. And thanks for putting me in a better mood the rest of the day! :)

Re: Glassmaster SIL project .

No boat work the last few days . It seems the reason I have been running a fever ,going on 5days now, is that I have received a spider bite on my leg . Chris will get the blame for this because I was working on his boat when it happened ..The admiral finally got me to go to the doctor today so hopefully the antibiotics and tetanus shot he gave me will kick in . I hope this clears up soon so things can get back to normal !
Later SP.. :spider:

Well I never saw the spider but I do remember something bite and the normal reaction of smash and scratch . You can't step out of the house down here and not get bit by some kind of bug ..

Re: Glassmaster SIL project .

Hopefully this latest development translates into a lower percentage of grinding time under the make-shift BBE. :D

Maybe even in a Mr Miyagi kind of way....

The SIL needs the time on the grinder anyway. That way he can pass the knowledge on to the next generation :watermelon:

Rest up & heal quick....

Best of wishes coming your way. Can't figure out how you people in the south make it with all the insects/reptiles trying to constantly take you out.Rest up if you can and keep us posted.

Re: Glassmaster SIL project .

lokonn, I guess ya have to take the good with the bad no matter where ya live . With as much good Florida has to offer I think it out weigh's the bad by far .. I wright this completely soaking wet from 30 mins outside in our 1000% humidity down here..LOL!!

OK fella's , I have run into a bit of a problem . Maybe ... It seems there is a pretty noticeable twist in the hull . After leveling at the transom and then leveling at the bow across the cap there is about an 1-1/2" twist in the hull .
My guess is when we patched the deck a few yrs ago it was not sitting straight on the trailer . So my plan is set my cradle as level as possible then tear the deck/stringers out and hopefully it will settle back into shape.
Any thoughts?

When the deck and stringers come out you should be able take out the twist without any trouble. Make your cradle straight and level and carry on!!!;)

Re: Glassmaster SIL project .

No gold shovels or dignitary's involved but we finally broke ground/mulch on her today ..

This was the area we previously patched. Notice the h/d brand veil cloth we used.Believe it or not I did at least give it a good acetone bath on each coat .

There is 2x material screwed on the sides with deck screw then painted rather shabbily with some water proof stuff .

Got a good storm go thru and the shelter proved to be working as planed ..
Hope you guy's had a great day! SP...

AAAHHHH...demolition, how I miss it...
NOT!
Good looking progress, guys...:D
Like woody said, once you get it gutted, you should be able to flex it back into shape...I remember back when mine was nothing but a hull being supported by the cradle, I could lift one corner of it without moving the rest of the hull...Glad to see you are finally getting over that bug......

In getting over the bug they have me on these big antibiotic pills . These pills are kicking my butt ! They make me feel sick and if you get into to much direct sunlight it will send you into la la land ..

Funny how they did the foam. It is pour in foam but it looks like they poured it in a mold to make long rectangular 2x4 pieces and then glued to the hull. I think we may use oodles of noodles ..Also need to come up with a plan for bait well cooler/fish bin ..It has a through hull drain in the old one . We plan on making new one a bit bigger .

No other ACX or BCX 3/4" ply? It's listed as 'resisting' water better then typical OSB decking ply, but that isn't a ringing endorsement....

Re: Glassmaster SIL project .

Just a Q?
Do you have any Mom & Pop Lumber Yards in the neighborhood?
I have found that, while they generally charge a bit more, the quality of their lumber is usually far and away better quality than the big box stores...
Either way, I tend to agree with JC, the "more resistant" endorsement doesn't sound too convincing to me...;)
Happy Wednesday!:D
