Not a clue. But I bet these headlights looked cool coming across the lake late at night.

ok.. I am glad thats solved..

now lets get down to serious business..

WE NEED MORE PICTURES !!! :D
WE NEED DETAILED RESTORATION PICTURES !!:D

I think you restoring this boat would be one of the most popular threads
maybe even surpassing Oops's Hull extension thread.

I read that whole article.. all i can say is.. wow.. lots of cool old boats.
I might have to get me one..

does anybody know what the SSMinnow was? that would be a cool restore
right up there with the bat boat.. or the 007 boat that a couple other members are working on..

Re: Hi. Can anyone identify this boat??

Wow thanks for all the help so far guys. Looks very similar to the 1 in the first photo in the article except mine has deeper, straighter fins on the hull but deffinently looks like it could be from the same maker. Where to go now is the question? I have tried researching custom craft on the internet but not found much info and being over the pond here in the uk is probally gonna make this a difficult project via sourcing parts etc, cant say ive seen many custom craft boats on our Thames River. So if any of you have any links to custom craft sites etc please post them up as a great deal of research to be done now. Also do you people have any idea how much money I should give the guy for the boat as I told him I would do some research and then give him a sensible and fair price for it. Once again Many Thanks for your help.

Until its restored its just hazardous waste, I might offer a hundred quid.
Its probably gonna be worth 2 grand after you spend 2 grand on materials, the labor is free.

Re: Hi. Can anyone identify this boat??

doesnt matter that its rare .. its been abused and left to die in the elements... the trailer is worth more as scrap than the boat and trailer together.. i would offer him $150, (less if there is no engine) and bargain up to max of $200 or $225..

and that is generous.. if you offered to take it away so he diddnt have to pay disposal fees he should be grateful.

so its rare.. if it were treated with respect and taken care of maybe it would be worth some $$ but in its current state.. cheap.. the cheaper the better.

what ever you do dont let on that its rare or could be a classic, .. suddenly these things double in preceived value.. weather its worth it or not.

I bought my boat for half of what the guy was offering.. I waited till he was very desperate..and winter was closing in..

I also bought a very rare compact tractor for less than half of what the guy wanted.. after I paid him and had it on my trailer I said.. oh this is a harvey.
and gave him a quick history.... he looked at me and said gee i wish I would have known.. i said.. it wouldnt have made any difference.. because there are only 5 known to exist out of 53 built... you would have had to sell it for scrap..because nobody has ever heard of it.. oh yea.. i spent about a year digging up info... finally had to contact the library to get an Idea of what they were..

Re: Hi. Can anyone identify this boat??

so let me get this straight...you think because a vast majority of people dont know about something it makes it worthless? lol. collectors would slap you for saying that.

what you perceive as junk, many others might not.

what about the 63 tempest that is nothing but junk that sold for 226 grand on ebay? the owner knew nothing about it

no.. quite contrary.. if you have lots of money and can see a pontially good deal.. then broadcast it to the heavens.. get everybody into classics to come and try to buy the piece out from under you.

what I am referring to is classically called a barn find.. some guy has something old sitting out back.. he might not know the worth.. if you present it as not worth much.. you'll get a better deal.. I am not saying its junk.. i am saying.. save yourself the cash.. dont walk up and say.. gee that old boat.. I did some research.. its a 196? this or that.. extreemly rare. ... suddenly in the owners mind.. this isnt an old boat.. its an old classic..and very rare.. I can get more $$ out of it.. subsequently it will sit in the weeds.. rotting away because suddenly instead of $150.. the guy wants $1050..

granted the days of "barn finds" are just about gone.

I like to drive down country roads past farms.. I see lots of old equipment that is no longer servicable.. these farmers would love to get rid of it.. but why bother.. if you came and said.. i will haul all your old equipment off for the price of scrap .. you give him what he thinks its worth.. and within that old machinery might be a rare piece that when restored is worth 10 times what you bought the whole pile for..

but for me.. I love to build and tinker.. so if I can by a potential classic for $150.. my budget just grew. I love looking for deals like that.. this old tractor I am referring to.. was posted on craigs list.. it was an odd ball..missing parts.. but it had the "look".. so I contacted the guy and went and looked at it... show pics to my dad (an old farmer) then I dug and dug and dug.... I finally figured out what it was.. 1 yr later.. I contacted the guy.. he hadnt sold it.. so now knowing what it was.. I knew what a good deal would be.. so i offered him..(significantly less than originally posted)
now my dad and I are restoring this very rare tractor.. it was built in longmont colorado, and this is the only one known to exist in colorado.
when I bought it and told the former owner what it was he was impressed by what I had discovered.. he said he had tried to find information but was unable to....and with tractors.. there were alot of one of a kind or home made ones.. this could have been a home made.. but it diddnt quite look that way to me.. ther were not serial numbers.. nothing.. even the engine in it was not original.. home made ones, while having a huge cool factor indeed are not worth much.. but the rare ones, having more value will never have the value that more popular brands do.. purly because nobody knows anything about them... but the precieved value is quite high..

I remember back in the early 80's when there was a resurgance in the old ford mustangs (1964 1/2/ 1965).. prior there were tons of those things around... then suddenly almost overnight.. they got valuable.. I spied a 1968 convertable not running sitting for years.. the precieved value went from $250 to $2500 overnight... and it sat for at least 10 more years.. untouched.. because the owner precieved the value at more than it actually was..

so my boat.. not running, barretta.. but I love the lines.. i decided I wanted that boat and what price I was willing to pay.. so i waited out the owner.. so I got the boat I wanted.. for the price I wanted to pay.. he was happy to finally have it gone, and I was happy to have it..

in both cases.. the guy I bought my boat from.. and the guy I bought the tractor from.. they both said.. I want to see it when its done.. .. so its not like I am sneaking around stealing candies from babies.... besides if you collect something thinking to make $$ you never will ...collect or buy what you like.. the value it has to you is most often way more than you can get for it.

now back to the regularly scheduled thread. diddnt mean to hijack..
