Re: How Fast Does Your Boat Go?

'99 Four Winns Horizon 170, 115 Johnson OB w/ 17 x 13 3/8 pitch Stainless

43 MPH by GPS, Smooth water, full tank of fuel 3 adults. Not bad (I think)

Could handle 19p stainless, and possibly get a little better, but I like the holeshot.

Re: How Fast Does Your Boat Go?

ok, i'll play this game of comparing apples to oranges too.

like others. it depends on the day. at least my load is generally the same. me and the 'ol lady + a days worth of gear.

41mph @ 4100 rpm
42mph @ 4200 rpm
43mph @ 4300 rpm.
best run was.............. 44mph @ 4400 rpm....

see the correlation between my speed and my rpms? i don't even need a speedo. which i don't have. speeds are gps, factory 1975 mercruiser in dash tach.

19 pitch aluminum 3 blade prop with no intentions of changing it soon.

1987 Sea Ray Pachanga 22. It has a built 502 and a Bravo XR currently turning a 23p Mirage 3 blade. 74MPH on GPS turning about 5 grand. I've been recommended to try a 25p Mirage+, might be able to eke out an MPH or two.

I don't go that fast often though, the gas gauge makes a SCHWOOOOP sound as it immediately flattens to E :) But she will cruise at 34MPH / 2400RPM all day long and does really well on fuel as long as you stay out of the secondaries.

I'll play only because there hasn't been a topic I could post in for a while.....!!

Boat details in signature. Perfect conditions, just the admiral and me, half tank of gas......57.8 mph GPS at a tick below 5,000 RPM. Normally only go WOT about once a month (boat is used weekly) for a minute or so just to make sure performance is where it should be. At about 4800 RPM, get anywhere from 52-54mph GPS. Normal cruise is about 35 mph at 3,500 rpm. Pleased with the performance.

1964 MFG Edinboro Custom with a 90 etec . 37 mph on speedo at 4800 rpm . Good enough for almost 50 year old lapstrake runabout .
I still feel so inadequate with all other fast boats posted .. :D

Ehh don't feel so bad. Last Sunday I was down at what we refer to as our top secret freshwater testing facility. With a few of the Scream & Fly boys. Shot pics'n video from the slow boat, it only ran 78.

The lil 13' Biel ran 90.8 and the Mirage ran 119.8. On freshwater mind you, woulda been even faster in saltwater.

Wanna talk about feeling inadequate? [Sobbing ...]

(anywhere near that fast and my wife's auto-nag feature comes on - "why do you have to drive so fast?!?!")
Yup, I believe that's part of the reason she more enthusiastic about the CC, it CANNOT get to OMG fast....

The boys on screamnfly and offshoreonly are a whole other breed of crazy!!!

To keep up with the guys on offshoreonly you need to win the lottery...

I am, unfortunately I'm also wincing in pain occasionally. Tried to change my camera position at an inopportune time'n got whacked by the inner edge of the gunnal in the left kidney area. Ain't peein blood but plenty sore. Think I dinged up my rib(s) a lil too. But that's the price we pay ...

Chase/camera boat was a 19' Reaction CC w/250 HO Etec. Motor's pushing more like 270+ hp.

Reckon what it all boils down to is: How fast do you want to pay ...?

Re: How Fast Does Your Boat Go?

Towing/trailering speed might should be a sub-category ...? But anyway, I've towed boats upward of 75mph. Round here if'n yer not doin 80-85 on the interstate yer holdin up traffic ...

Re: How Fast Does Your Boat Go?

50.2mph gps. Cold morning, no gear, fuel tank on fumes, cowl off. I spent an hour prior to that dialing in the timing. With gear and folks aboard, I max out in mid 40's.

I love going fast, but I rarely get above 30 mph. There is too much damn traffic in the NC ICW, and the water is ALWAYS too rough to go WOT safely without slamming through the chop.

Re: How Fast Does Your Boat Go?

Depending on fuel and people... 65-66ish. But just me and 1/4 tank... 70mph.. GPS

A powerplay XLT185 Integra with a 408 sbc - YouTube

OK so I watched your video, you were not going 65... until the last part. Holey smoke does that boat go. Is that your boat? Nice, next year I will take a video of my boat. I hit 52 on a good day. For the most part most boats go about 35-40, and that's fast for the water. Over 50 is smoken fast... Nice.
