Re: hull extension in progress with picks

1/2" Marine ply is 7 layers but the ply's are at 90 deg like everything else. The glue is also no different than exterior ply. The big difference is that there are no voids (knot holes) in any of the layers. I'm not sure whether any of the layers have plugs (footballs) in them or not but the outer ones do not.

you are correct wise......(is that why they call u wize?)

but ther are SLIGHT nuances in the glue....but both are waterproof and thats what matters.

tashas daddy has years of knowlage between the two products.....and all he uses is ext ply.

i use pt beacuse of the added protection (minimal with proper fiberglass encasement).

but as far as marine and ext....i gotta go with ext !....the advantages of marine just dont out weigh the cost !.......twice the cost

(having said that....erik green showes an absolutly perfect core cut out on his unintentional stringer job.....one that still impresses me to this day)

for any "new to boats" people here.....you are reading some really in depth stuff from other posters that really know there stuff...(excluding me)

ps.....wise....im gonna do a materials list soon....i need you and other guys to look it over before it gets submitted to open forum....can ya help?

One thing I'm finding when I ask around. Unless I want a skid, no one will bring it in. Do you know someone who has it in town?

Kinda what I figured. This more than anything means my floor replacement won't be marine grade.

Re: hull extension in progress with picks

Hello Guys,

Glad things are progressing well on the boat. Haven't spent much time on the puter lately. Went out and bought a quad to keep me busy for the winter. Still try and keep up to date with the hull extension project though.

WRT marine ply, there are suppliers here in Van, but it is expensive. If you need more info I can forward it to you. But IMO it is not worth it. Like Oops suggested the extra cost does not warrant buying it. Just use exterior grade and seal it up real good. If you are worried about strength, then use 5/8 thick instead of 1/2 inch. That is all I used on my restore.

That is all for now. Have to get back to work, lunch is over.

Have a great day,

Rob.

Hey oops!... GO RIDERS GO!! :p

Figured I better get my name in the mix here and finally subscribe to the thread so I don't miss anything. Can't wait to see some progress on the dash so I can get some ideas on how to work mine.

BTW, I don't know what kind of windshield you're going to be using, but if you're going with individual windshields instead of one big one... check out ebay for an '86 - '95 FLH/FLHT/FLHTC windshield like this one (and from this company): http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Harl...0328431QQptZMotorcyclesQ5fPartsQ5fAccessories

Various heights, various tints, easily curved and shouldn't be difficult to attach ;) I think I might go that route to have something even more unique.

Here you go. Tried calling you last weekend to see how things were going but no answer. If you need me to check any engine leads for you over here just give me a call.

Take care and have a great day,

Rob.

A Blaster huh? Fun little quads. Low maintenance and small enough to throw around at will.

Re: hull extension in progress with picks

Hey guys -

As much as I like the level of friendliness around here, could you guys confine topics and comments not related to this thread to PMs or other threads?

Oops has a great story going here with almost every post adding more information, commenting on the build, etc. and it seems a shame to post unrelated stuff when it adds to the amount of posts newcomers have to sort through to read this thread. It's already of epic length anyway. :)

You might want to check out dockside chat for a lot of friendly non boat conversation... Oops lives there too :)

And of course, Oops may feel differently about this, and it's his thread, so....

Erik

PS: I'm not posting much lately, but I still track this thread, and I'm still working on my new space for boat building... I'll start posting more when I start my build. If you want a comment on something (for some reason) from me, feel free to PM.

I agree with you Erik, but then again, this thread has taken on almost a family approach to it..everyone that becomes involved in this project in one way or another has a special attachment to it, so they feel compelled to add to the thread if it slows down with new progress.

Re: hull extension in progress with picks

Too bad the progress came to a skreetching halt with the loss of the shop, but this thread has a life of it's own. It's probably going to take him a couple of weeks to edit it when it finally makes it too the completed thread forum. Hope he find a new work place soon.
