Re: hull extension in progress with picks

Hey guys -

As much as I like the level of friendliness around here, could you guys confine topics and comments not related to this thread to PMs or other threads?

Oops has a great story going here with almost every post adding more information, commenting on the build, etc. and it seems a shame to post unrelated stuff when it adds to the amount of posts newcomers have to sort through to read this thread. It's already of epic length anyway. :)

You might want to check out dockside chat for a lot of friendly non boat conversation... Oops lives there too :)

And of course, Oops may feel differently about this, and it's his thread, so....

Erik

PS: I'm not posting much lately, but I still track this thread, and I'm still working on my new space for boat building... I'll start posting more when I start my build. If you want a comment on something (for some reason) from me, feel free to PM.

I would like this thread to be posted in the finished project section one day, as a clean, step by step manual to stretching a boat, OOPS style.

To reduce the number of non-instructional post in this thread, I removed mine. My post were more of the, I hope, motivational, spirit building type for OOPS the person. They would have little value for anyone besides OOPS who would like to do something like this themselves, so I removed them.

One thing I noticed when going through my post, was that you have many post, of exactly the type of post here that you now say shouldn't be here. When the project slows down, people post to keep it on the front pages of the rebuild section, sometimes constructively, sometimes not. But it has kept this thread alive, when so many others have slid onto the depths of the deep blue.

Give the new comers some slack Erik, this thread is infectious, and it is hard not to post in it. I don't disagree with you, on the contrary, I do agree, 100%. I would also like to see the non “OOPS stretch” comments moved to the OOPS Crew thread.

http://forums.iboats.com/showthread.php?t=277821

But it has become an international project, with a huge team of supporters. For good, or bad, it is no longer a small closed circle of friends.

Just because you have less time to post, don't expect all others to stop also just so you don't have to wade through things, that don't interest you? :)

Re: hull extension in progress with picks

Quads float? Who knew??? :D

Yep, especially in winter when the lakes are frozen. Anyways the fact is that despite peoples intentions, there are alot of posts that are not instructional. If this was purely instructional, then many posts should be deleted. This is about people from around the world talking about Oops! project, some with instructional value, some not. All this gives it personality IMO.

Regarding losing the shop, I suggested when I was there last, that he should move those mattresses from his storage area into the store. Use the storage area for his boat. Long term solution. The mattresses would easily fit in the store.

Have a great day,

Rob.

Re: hull extension in progress with picks

actually guys...... i really dont mind that there is a bunch of extra posts.....in fact i like it.......

redfury and turtle explaind it well.......and turtle.....you just put that stuff right back ! :D

in order to help any one looking for infornation on the thread....i will add an index at the first page.......

i would like to keep the "chit chat"
....as we have discussed a lot of good subjects. i think robs quad pics are great......

as far as an unedited version......i just dont know how im going to do that.....as we all had fantastic discussion on each step....like the stringer wrapping phase....we all really contributed...we all debated...an d i think the comments are so very valid that they need to be there......

i say....let this one grow !

cheers

Re: hull extension in progress with picks

actaully.....i wanna add somthing......

in boat building there is a lot of mental ups and downs......ya know from the high you are on when you first tear into it....to the low you get when the first day is done and you have a big pile of garbage....torn carpet....rotted wood and wet foam.

a lot of the comments and fun pics have kept me goin......snapping turtles cartoon pic of the kid rubbing his hands togeather.....or the guy tapping his fingets on the table.....that stuff really helps get you to the next phase.
i was kinda sad to see his comments removed, the guy is a blast.

a lot of my motivation on the project has been from you guys and your support with finding things or suggestions to add things......

erik is my friend, he has a valid point to help the new people looking for information.......(after all this thread exists for that reason).
but i think the frendly suppory everyone gives by the all around conversation is really needed.

......and with an index at the start of the thread.....we can accomplish all our goals.
ill start working on one tonight after i get home from cleaning the shop

Well, another way to look at it for anyone looking to do any work on their boat, is that they can see the ups and downs of working on a project. You can see the joys of getting a crucial step completed, and you can see the agonizing over an unassuming problem ( fully wrapped stringers section ), and see the steps involved in the critical thinking process and see how ones head can get a little too wrapped up in ( or warped depending on whom you are speaking of  ) trying to figure it out, when the solution wasn't all that difficult, it just took a different perspective to find it.

This thread lives to show the entirety of what Iboats is all about. It shows the absolute resolution of people to finish what they start here, and it shows the absolute dedication the members of iboats have to supporting those of us here that are working on and sharing our passion with them.

If this were a reality show, it would be a hit! Everyone's comments should stay in the thread so it doesn't lose the luster it has built up over these many months, and many many pages. Besides, if anyone were to break it down and make a stale documentary on building the boat, it would still take days to go over thoroughly, so why not enjoy the ride while you are at ti? It's easy enough to drop a bookmark where you've left off in your browser if you want/need to go back to a specific section...and if oops! wants to add an index on the initial post, all the better!

I stand corrected, and I apologize heartily to anyone I muzzled with my comments.

Do carry on, it's the slow season after all :)

No need to apologize...it was a fair statement and probably should have been addressed about 20 or 30 pages ago :D.

This isn't a hull extension anymore though...it's a journey...an epic tale, and we are all part of it ;)

Being a newcomer here, (a day or 2 ago) I would like to give you a big hearty thank you Oops! ,for your inspiration to proceed with my own project. I have already been through the highs and lows with it and all that is left is pretty much everything! I have had a few days where it was 20 minutes away from become landfill fodder, but I stepped away, clicked here a few times and am know on my way with it. so keep up the good work. I admire your perseverance with the project alone, but also with the time you have invested in sharing it with the rest of us here, my hat is off to you!

Re: hull extension in progress with picks

i got three to look at........rent a boat might find some space for me yet...
one is 30 seconds from the store.....sharing a shop....so while that would be a fantastic location.....it all depends on other people......i keep looking tho !
but im back to the same ol $1500 a month thing for any decent space :(

i moved the boat out last night and cleaned the shop.......what a chore !

i think i have some before and after shots of the shop.....it took 4 of us 6 hrs to clean and move every thing.......i really didnt want to move out of there....it was a great place....central and close.

i ve got pics of the boat in its temp new home....(my sisters drive way).....but the proj is stalled for a little while...:(.......

but in the mean time....im going to try to do some stuff i dreamed up and am going to see if i cant make a working model of it.....

i cant tell you what it is on open forum, but it will be a major break thru for larger boats if it works!

ive got the time at the store as its not busy here right now......(had 4 coustomers all day)

For $1500 a month you can buy a house and turn it into a garage then when your done, sell it and get your money back :D Open floor plans are selling points :D

Yes, welcome to your new home, with that new...itchy smell! <scratch>

Look at how the carpets and drapes just glisten! That's real glass in there folks! <scratch scratch>

And don't forget to pay attention to the enormous front doors <scratch>
why, you could almost drive a boat<scratch> through them! Think of how easy it will be to move in! <scratch scratch..bleed> :D:eek:

The G/F is tring to kick the boat out here too!! Doesn't want to park it the snow? Thats why we live in Michigan!! Right? Your on the wrong side of Canada.. We still have room for a 30' boat,, thats what it's getting to now, right? What is it about 26'? Then you wouldn't get sh** done with all my questions on my 10th scale boat.. Best of luck on a new work spot!!

I can see you found the right "form" for the seat cushions, you must have been looking hard for that.
