I need help wiring my mercruiser 470

What year is your 470, or the serial number? Mercruiser used used two different styles of distributors. The Delco and Prestolite. Which one does your cap look like? Also, once you set your dwell and point gap, then you have to check your timing. Moving the point gap/dwell will change the timing. Timing is checked after the dwell. There was a TSB issued regarding timing. It was lowered to 4°. I have the TSB attached below:

The correct Merc part is -34235. To ensure quality, buy from Merc (as much as I hate saying that!), not some fly-by-night amazon/ebay seller with a questionable reputation... You'll save all of a couple of dollars, and be worried about if it's the right part until you fit it.

Just buy the part from Merc and know it's the right one, and it'll work.

actually i have a mcm 180 but from what i heard their practically 470's and as for the distributor i have the 2nd one
