Re: In a bit of a pickle....Got the plow truck stuck!!

I have used those on my ATV, but I would be very hesitant on a truck that weighs as much as mine, you would have to have a very large synthetic rope, like they use on Tub Boats to ensure it didn't break and slap ya around.

I think "slap ya around" is a bit of an under-statement. Probably "Rip your face off" would be closer to what would happen.

I haven't broken any synthetic line, but I hear it doesn't whip and decapitate people like wire rope can.

My first question is what did you remove from the Explorer to get it down to 3000#?

Having gotten plow trucks stuck often, a few things come to mind.

first, dig out the plow. its probably hung up. Next, dig under the truck, and a few feet in front and behind the wheels. the truck should be able to get itself out.

If that doesnt work....and you got the winch, Install it. if there isnt a tree near by, turn the exploder side-ways to help as an anchor.

If you already have the tires aired down you may be loosing a couple of inches of ground clearance due to the tire 'squish'.

Air up the tires and recover that ground clearance, the added air should also increase any tread traction.

After you are back on firm ground then you can lower tire pressure , if it really makes a positive improvement.

We carry a 'high lift' jack and many times have had to set it on a chunk of 12 X to lift a stuck vehicle, one wheel at a time, to fill in under each wheel so we could drive out of a 'stuck' position.

We never aired down truck tires when I was in the snow biz. In the old days they even made the duels singles for better traction.

I've never understood the advice to lower the tire pressure. That allows the tread blocks to collapse into each other, which should result in LESS traction.

Its the same theory of cutting through a loaf of bread with the sharp end of a knife (aired up), and them with the dull side (low air pressure). You have a larger overall footprint and distribute the weight over a larger area.

Its a Ford it will do it n/p. Now if it was a Dodge as the commercial on TV shows, a power wagon pulling a horse trailer , you would have to take the team out of the trailer and hook up then pull the pick up with trailer and the plow truck together.

It works well on sand, but snow is different.

I've moved ALLOT of snow using trucks with properly inflated tires. Never had a problem with traction unless I was pushing a huge load of heavy wet stuff. IMHO if the tires are spinning while your plowing you either have the wrong tires on, you're overworking the truck, or you're stuck...:)

Key thing with tires and snow is the ability of the tread to clear it's self out, and take another bite. Not sure how well deflated tires are going to do this.

Nope, it is still stuck over the edge of the driveway, the winch is supposed to be delivered tomorrow, so should have it out by the weekend, it has been nice here since the day I got it stuck, so have not worried about it much, have done some digging and a lot of looking, but I will get it out.

Thanks for the note.

You just need to buy one of the new Ram pickups and use that to pull you loose.

How about going to the local dealer and TEST DRIVE a big truck, just long enough to drag yours out!

Yes, but note that you are pushing harder (more weight) with the dull side. The smaller the foot print the greater the pounds per square inch is concentrated. Think of walking in hiking shoes vs skis.

Nope, the winch is sitting in the middle of the living room floor, I have to find some wire to get it hooked up, not many carry the size wire I need here where I live.

Could be called other things elsewhere...
For all I know, the terminology was exclusive to my buddy's mudding club.
An educated guess is it's creation was inspired by the dynamics between Maine-o's, and Mass**les. Very complected to explain to an outsider... Bond-o would understand. It's a love-hate kinda thing... :D;)

Ayuh,.... Those from "Away" would never, Ever understand..... :D

Another Maine version is to put on tire chains, Loose, 'n slip 4' long, 3" birch sticks into the chains, against the tires, like a paddlewheel...

It's 'ell on fenders, but it'll lift ya out of a hole...
