Save your money and just run it on a calm lake, down hill. I'm sure you will pick up the additional 5MPH and more!:D

Down hill is definitely one option - another is go out when the water is thicker - it will give the prop more bite. You're welcome. Now if you need me, I'll be out on the thick water searching for perch. Now where did I put my auger.

In 1958 Mercury Outboards set an official 2 way record of 107.9 mph with a Merc. Mark 75H outboard , certified as stock. The whole project probably cost less than $6,800.

I say spend $13,600 and jump to 200 mph!

Just be sure to have someone taking video on the shore please. Somebody would probably do that for free:D

I agree with the other poster. Just lie about the speed, and keep the dough!

Here hold my beer while I push this thing to 100. even though other than pride 95 is not much different that 100. If you can afford it, why not. How many people out there can say the have a boat that can go 100?

Thanks for the various insights and opinions. A few responses actually did help give me some perspective to influence my decision.

Come this spring when the warranty ends, I think a few upgrades will done :)
These should net me an additional 10-12% increase in power. While the initail cost of the mods will be under 2 G's, if they cause failure it'll result in 6800.00 in replacement:facepalm: So in actually it's only 2K to get there but if it breaks it, the additional 6800 will bring the total bill to 8800.

What's life without taking a few chances to enjoy the things that really give you pleasure, after all we can all lose it in a blink of an eye.

So since you do not want to reveal what the boat and power is all I have to do is laugh. Oh and you have mentioned a warranty......

Why am I laughing? This post is nothing but a troll.

Re: Is it worth 6800.00 to pick up 5 mph??

I was convinced it was a troll. too much oddity in the post. An arbitrary value of $6,800 to glean an additional 5MPH, but absoutely no information about the type of boat, power, or what mods are being considered. Then the reply came that the mods are actually on ly $2K, which migh cause $6,800 in repairs. This means it's either $8,800 or $2,000. At no point would the mods be $6,800. the math is unclear and you still haven't provided the details on the mods. What is here is a pic of a "A" boat.

I'm not accusing you of trolling, but the behavior is very very much like that of a troll. My apologies for jumping to conclusions as well.

shrew is dead on here poontoon I'm on the fence about whether your a troll or not but at the very least you should provide some information as to the boat don't you think? Otherwise your just blowing smoke, all we know is that its a dual hull fiberglass boat with twin outboards but I can tell you with certainty, jumping on Bob's case is a one way express ticket off the site!

Info on the boat or power really didn't have any relevance to the initial question. I didn't want someone basing a response on additional variables, i.e, boat type, cost of the boat, power, etc. It was more the simple abstract question to get a variety of view points that might provide insight that I otherwise wouldn't have taken. I wasn't jumping on "bob's" case. I was responding to the shot across my bow.

Regardless of the questioning responses and banter, a few meaningful response I did get which in fact did help. I've already put aside the $$ for this project and look forward to spring :)

For 25 bucks you can get-er-done and might even have some change left over. Go to Krystals and buy a bag of doubles with cheese, stop by Walmart and get a couple boxes of ex-lax. Go 3 miles from your destination and eat the burgers chase it down with a big cup of lake water and munch on the ex-lax, Wait 20 minutes then start your engines. I guarantee that you can get the extra 5mps from methane.
