Here is a question Iboats members: Should we keep or git rid of the manufacturer forums?

All they do is get in my way when I'm quickly scrolling down to find DC...

It's all about the bottom line at iboats.
The more you have listed, the more you sell.

Agree w/SBN

And when iboats makes money it enables us to have the forums in the first place.

It's starting to look like some members think this is a gov. funded site.

Don't be a dumb a$$ and bite the hand that feeds. Not to mention what they just invested in new equipment and now all people want to do is complain.

I'm not jumping on that train.

I think they need more time before their fate is decided. If their placement on the list of forums is a problem they can be moved. Trival complaint in my book, but then again I often go against the grain here on iboats.

Why would having a mostly unused manufaturer forum cause people to buy more stuff?

As for the cost to run this forum, it's almost nothing. To a company the size of iboats, it's even closer to nothing. I know I've spent enough money at iboats by myself to run this forum for many many months.

More search engines will find more ways to point people to iboats . . .

Let us be grateful for the gift of these forums.
It is not true that nobody uses them. They are another gateway to the more popular forums.
If you never heard of iboats, but you look for ,let's say glastron boat help, you are prone to find iboats, and for all we know,it may add some outboard experts to our lists.Maybe even an additional liberal to help plywoody and me stand up against the onslaught of republicanism :p :) :)

Name one boat related word that doesn't already bring up iboats. ;)

And anybody with any common sense looking for information related to those things will add "boat" or "outboard" to their search, which will always find iboats. Having a forum for those things will not bring search engines here any more than they would without them. Adding those words in small print at the bottom of the page would have the same effect as having an entire forum for them.

I own a large webhosting business along with several high traffic websites. I know exactly what it takes to be found in a search...having a specific brand forum isn't one of them.

Re: Keep or Drop the Manf. Forums

Seems like a waste of space to me. Look for yourself, none of them have more than a hand full of posts. Given that, most questions that get asked there will never be answered because nobody looks at them.

Re: Keep or Drop the Manf. Forums

If you ask me, (as mentioned in mattttt25's thread) eventually people will not know where to post their questions. To post in boat troubles, or the manufacturer forums?

Re: Keep or Drop the Manf. Forums

Looking waaaay back, what were they thinking when less than 2000 members in 6 months? Were they thinking maybe do away with the forums? I don't think so, just give it more time guys.

If admin had asked the question, I would have voted. Its not up to the members to decide what happens, but they do take suggestions. Maybe that is why the mfg. forums is there. Someone else may like the idea. Nuff said for me......SS

OK, as a "Suggestion", I think they are being miss used, Most of the questions should be in the main forums. Some questions get asked in those forums that dont ever get seen by the rest of us. I only look at the Bass boat ones, and not even them very often.

Re: Keep or Drop the Manf. Forums

I think the different boat forums is a good idea, if used in the proper context. It is a place to show off your boat, and maybe give your set-up specs, and could help current and prospective owners. If you have a general boating question, or a question about your engine, there are better places to ask. I guess they figured there are enough users here to sustain individual boat forums, and I believe they will, given time.

As stated here, a lot of you don't read them. That's up to you. I do see DSC gets the most traffic, but I don't read it much anymore because it's mostly arguements between Republicans and communists, oops, I mean democ rats.

I come here for boating information, and I get it. There are a lot of good people here with solid knowledge of boating and fishing. But, there are some who just use it to bash our President. If you really want to talk politics, go to political BBS. Besides, scrolling down the screen, DSC is before the manufacturer's section, so what's the problem.

As far as adding to the bottom line, I don't think the forums matter much either way. I'm sure it doesn't hurt, but I think this is intended to give us a place to hang out when when we're not out on the water, nothing more, nothing less. If they dropped the BBS, they'd still be in business, they'd still make money, and they wouldn't have to spend time, money, and effort, trying to keep this thing up and running in an orderly manner.

Enjoy it.

Well, I'm sure the idea was tossed around some before undertaking it by the iboats management.

It's their place so there is not anyone that can gripe and complain but them as I see it.

Re: Keep or Drop the Manf. Forums

Drop them, if for no other reason than it now takes forever to do a simple forum search, which will lead to newbies giving up and just making the same bayliner and prop question posts over and over and over and over and over agian.

I like bayliner and it was my first boat so don't get all in a tizzy.
