Re: Lake Mead boat/camp??

QC.....how you doing?? How long does it take to drive to Callville from the OC? or would you recommend I launch from Hemming way? Not sure how long the drive is to go from one marina to another. I wanted to launch from Callville only because my truck and trailer would be near by if I needed to leave for something being I had plan to camp at Sandy Cove. What do you think??

Re: Lake Mead boat/camp??

Very limited Mead info there ^^^^^^ , but I like the coordinates feature. They still show Lake Mead Marina in a spot it hasn't been in two years though . . . ;)

I'm doing OK Angel, thanks for asking. Probably Moabi for me over Easter weekend thru Wed..

Callville is only 20 minutes further by road than Hemenway. Nice Marina, full service, good stuff, good ramp., can be crowded but not this early.

4 1/2 - 5 hours if you don't mess around. I can get to Hemenway in just over 4 from Chino Hills. I pull the trailer at 69 MPH. I15 to 146 through Henderson, take Lake Mead Blvd. to North West corner of Boulder Basin (do not go to Boulder if you are going to Callville). Only go through Boulder if going to Hemenway/Las Vegas Boat Harbor/Lake Mead Marina. the 146 becomes the 215 for a while, you want Lake Mead Parkway. Continue on Lake Mead Parkway (564) unitl you enter the Park. Just after entrance shack/gate/thing make a left on 147 (Northshore Rd.) to Callville.

Thanks for the info guys.
QC.....Let me know how Moabi goes. That was my original plan but then I heard the water was still really cold this early in the season and my kids want to tube and swim. So hopefull it won't be as bad at Mead. But like you said before kids will swim in just about any temp, not me!! lol

NO WHINERS......As a matter of fact, the plan is to be out their April 16th through 19. If all goes accordinaly, my Larson should be cruising the waters of Beautiful Lake Mead!! and I'll be looking out for your vessel.

Cough* Cough*, Also not to mention, but in betwen calville and hemenway there is boulder, which has ample parking and near both marinas for any extra needs, primative, well is lack for a better word, that I call "camping" to each thier own though, guess it dependends on what your view of prmiative is, for me its simple, if I wanted "all" that, I would be @ boulder beach!, I am under the opinion you prefer more prviacy than that?, such as folks like I do.

One thing I can testify to is, there is quite a bit of knowledge and insight here!, that said, there is also alot of bored fisherman with nothing better to do, like directing from "webistes", as opposed to actually "living" in that area, not to say that sites are mis-leading, but asking a bus boy about the nights speacials, could have a bad turn out~

I will also be out there in that time frame~~

That's the magic of ActiveCaptain. You see, there's no way any company or web site or individual can accumulate all of the changes that take place with marinas and anchorages. They change way too much - you'd be shocked. You're right, Lake Mead Marina says that their facility completely moved in 2008 because of low water in the area.

So in about 30 seconds, I moved the marker to it's, hopefully, correct place. Any user can move a marker too - the new position is validated before the marker actually moves. We try to stop one marina from moving the markers of their competitors to different places. Don't ask. Some have tried.

In fact, all of the data that's maintained can be modified. Reviews can be entered, etc. There's a huge benefit to this method, but it requires people to pitch in and update the areas they know. Unlike guidebooks, the data is alive, and free.

We currently get more than 1,000 updates every day. We have almost 10,000 reviews currently. The whole thing is really working well but in less populated areas, it really needs people with local knowledge helping.

I noticed that Las Vegas Boat Harbor was slightly off position - easy to tell on the satellite image - so I fixed it too.

If you see something that's wrong, please help us out. It's easy, fun, and you earn points (with some cool uses coming up)...

LOL 10-4 and adequetly put I might add.

That being said rather than throw stones I can produce some solid insight*, So I will take that advice!

Be out there this weekend, and tell everyone the launch conditions of Boulder, Launch conditions I.e., and etc.

Again that is why I love this site* knowledge, and learning evreyday, and sometimes the case is not about boating at all, but respect, I for one can appreciate that!

Thanks Again~

yes calville is nice but be prepared to walk a mile up hill to get your trailer after boating. The store and bar is up there too,and the store has a small restraunt with no fried foods.Sandy beach is awesome though and close to the narrows where there is shade in the afternoon.good large mouth fishing.lots of park rangers no drinking and driving.have fun be carefull.

jjacobs007......thanks for the heads up on that mile walk up hill. Didn't know about that. So do you recommend that spot for camping?? I like the idea of being close to the narrows.

They usually have a shuttle van for the ride from the ramp and courtesy docks to the store and restaurant . . .

Re: Lake Mead boat/camp??

Just stumbled into this thread... depending on when you are launching, the Boulder (Horsepower Cover) launch seems pretty good. The down side can be pretty long lines to launch, but not during the week and not too bad in April.

We will probably be out next weekend, weather permitting! Last weekend we got caught in some rough waters, not terribly large waves, but very high winds... came up quick as others have mentioned... our boat handled it fine, but slipping it when we got back to the marina was not so fun

At Las Vegas Boat Harbor and Lake Mead Marina there is no need for a shuttle as the stores etc. are all floating. Temple Bar and Callville both have shuttles.
