Re: Lake Mead

I usually launch at what I think was called Lake Mead Marina although there is no marina there now..Generally put in at 5:00 AM and fish Vegas Wash and get off the lake around 11 or 12....I live here in the O.C. but have a 2nd house in Henderson so get out there once a month..

Re: Lake Mead

We were scheduled to go out today, but didn't. We'll probably go next Monday and Thursday. We go out Calville Bay, its easier and usually less crowded. Our next trip out we want go run the whole lake (or as much as possible).

Re: Lake Mead

Yeah I used to launch there a lot, now I launch at Hemenway and get a slip at what is now Lake Mead Marina. We leave here at 4:00 AM and then stay a long weekend at the Hacienda. We hang in Wishing Well, James Bay, Sandy Cove, Mushroom Reef and sometimes Bonelli.

I use a heavy concrete form stake, and drive it in the sand with a sledge hammer for the stern line. then you can also adjust how close or far out the boat swings with the stern line going to the beach. if you look closely, you can see the yellow line.

red;
nice pics. looks like you had nice weather.kidos realy like the water? thought you had a dog you took too.
whats the water tem now?

was wishing could have got a hold of you before you left and asked you to gets some pics of launch ramp at echo.

no surprise 7 crowns(clowns as the guys at lake mead m and LVBM call them)
is getting off the lake. they tell me lake mead M picked up on maintenance and was better after they sold it.
wish some one else other than forever was getting it though. last nov. when jill and i were looking for a winter slip, we talked to guy that ran calvill, i was later told he is the owner of forever resorts, he didn't want to rent slips for part of a year. we kept a slip at lake mead m for 5 months and and they seemed happy to have us. in fact got a invite to come back this winter.

any how kinda wanted to look at staying at temple or echo this winter.
one thing, temple helped us load-no charge- and said the are just as willing to help launch no charge. it was going to cost to get hauled at lake mead. no help. they do it or your kinda on your own.
to bad when they spent all the money at hemmin way they didn't plan ahead better and made or provided a way to extend it as the lake dropped

as far as slip prices, last fall the were all pretty much the same price for equal services. most likley a nat park thing

Re: Lake Mead

yep, weather was perfect for the 2 days, glass all day. the kids absolutely love the water, its awesome. i have a little boston terrier, but shes a bit too wild for the boat right now so we get a sitter for her when we go. sorry, i woulda snapped a few pics of the launch for ya. my buddy says its the nicest ramp and hes been to quite a few others on mead. they keep extending, pouring concrete, and laying trenchplates as they go.

Seven crowns lease is up, and they are not extending it, so forever resorts gets to come in for a year, run the place and decide if they want to keep it or not. however, the girl there said the lake requires that echo always maintain a fuel dock, marina, and launch ramp no matter what i guess. my impression of forever resorts sucks, i went to calville and it just seemed trashy and dirty everywhere. dunno, maybe its just me. im afraid the room rates will jack up and things like that. echo bay is selling off their houseboats so they dont have to pay to move them to their other resorts in northern cal.

help launching? if you dont mind me asking, how big is your boat? i know echo has a ton of empty slips, lots of people have been leaving. we launched and we were the only boat at the ramp or the marina on friday. we were the ONLY people staying at the hotel that night that i know of as well. the receptionist said one of the local news channels broadcasted that echo bay closed and they lost alot of business.

24'8" but its not the size. i tow with my 1/2 ton pu or jills 1/2 yukon xl.

i have some health problems and don't get around real well. i single hand launch and load but when i run into shallow ramps, and have to get way into the water before the boat floats its tough to wade and walk on the slick bottoms. steep ramps are ok but when i have to back in past the front wheels then- the farther from shore the more trouble i /2366923540103006965GJCdWj]

I don't, Forever Resorts is a WHOLE lot more expensive on their boat rentals, check out the house boat prices  Seven Crown's house boat pricing is on the budget side so hopefully that does not change. Forever's least expensive houseboat is $450-550/day while at Seven Crown you can rent one of their small house boats for $1150-1350/WEEK

And, from everything I have seen Forever Resorts are "greenies". Ever wonder who pushed to have Black Canyon (below Hoover Dam) turned into a "primative zone" with restricted access to power boats. I fish down at Willow Beach (Forever Resorts) and get the feeling they don't like the "fisherman" aspect of their operations...

This is not a bash on their company, I just don't agree with their agenda, how they have pushed it on the public and how they have changed a place I love.

http://foreverearth.net/

Side note: No powered boats are allowed up river from Willow Beach on Sunday/Monday all year and restricted to boats under 65 HP from September through May, Labor Day to Memorial Day... EXCEPTION; the huge raft's Forever Resorts operate, with twin 50HP or single 100+ HP outboards,,, go upriver every day of the week all year long for their raft tours.:mad: Wonder how they got that one past the LMNRA board...

oh okay...echo is not bad then. my back tires on the truck are barely in the water when i launch. There is some loose gravel mixed with tar though, if that stuff gets on your bare feet its really hard to get off. overall though, its a fairly steep, well maintained ramp. i see lots of 25-30 footers like yours launching with no problem. theres a courtesy dock at the launch also, you can float yours right off the trailer and tie up without even getting wet.

first thing i asked about was the houseboats, because i looked into the forever prices vs seven crowns a few months ago. sure the forever ones might be a little nicer, but i will never justify 500/day for one. so it looks like they are bringing their own houseboats up there with the rediculous rates. i just really hope the hotel doesnt jump any higher, its already over 100/night. guess we have to wait til the new year to find out what the deal is.

I can't see spending $500/day on a house boat either, $2K for 4 days  It doesn't make sense unless you can split that cost with a few families. The reason I go to the lake is to get away from people...

no i didnt look at any for sale.....i got a crazy thought, lookin at all those private houseboats just sittin there though. i was wondering if maybe i could contact one of the owners, offer to maybe maintain it and split the slip cost or somethin so we would have one to use. it would be his boat still, i guess we would be renting, in a fashion from him. im sure one of those guys would have to go for it, just to have someone come down and keep the boat running, take it out once in a while, and stuff like that.
