Re: Looking to buy, need some advice

Trim,
I checked with with mine friend plus 3 dealers / marina reps last weekend at the boat show. No one recognized the name. I hoped to have more. . . sorry.
He must be an independant. Good luck.

Alright, well I appreciate you looking into it. I can't find any info on it either.

Re: Looking to buy, need some advice

The Crownline deal fell through but found another boat that I would like everyone's opinion on. It is a 2007 Glastron 185 GXL. It's a repo but boat is in great condition, under 80 hours. Been told it runs great and will run about 55mph. I have looked up other 2007 Glastrons and this boat is priced well below everything I have found. Let me know what you guys think.

It looks decent. Glastrons have a good reputation. I think 55 mph is a bit optimistic with a V6 and a 18 1/2 foot boat even down wind with just a driver and minimal fuel. Repo's are a worry because if the owner is short of money, the last thing they'll spend it on is boat maintenance. I would worry more about whether its been serviced regularly and had the requisite fluid and impeller changes than the hours on the meter.

Re: Looking to buy, need some advice

Its a little more then I would like to spend for a first boat but it does look nice and depending on your area may very well be underpriced for the market so I would look at it, and get a lake test set up, bring a GPS with you so you can kick the seller in the Junk on the REAL top speed I seriously doubt that boat will do 55MPH with a 4.3 unless it is badly over propped which will mean it will struggle getting a skier up, thats not the end of the world mind you but it gives you knowledge to beat the seller up on the price during negotiations.

Being overpropped just means you need another prop to get the boat optimized for what you want to do, typically if you want top end you suffer at the bottom and visa verse ok? Definitely worth looking at, beware that if its a repo a lake test may be tough to get though, and look for signs that the boat wintered well while in the banks possession.

Go look! Boat looks in good shape, and I think that is snap-in carpet on the floor which is a plus in my book. It's all about CONDITION, CONDITION, CONDITION - it may be because it's a repo that it's so cheap. It maybe because it's a repo in rough shape that it's so cheap. Look carefully.

This will be my first boat but i do have experience with loading, unloading, and driving. Don't have much experience with looking for flaws or problems with boats, No experience mechanically working on boats.

The boat is available for sea trial but for a cost of $200 which is considered a down payment you don't get back if you don't purchase.

Re: Looking to buy, need some advice

Ok first off Seller gets to make the rules that are agreed upon tell them to stick their $200 up their hind end, go look at it get a friend who is knowledgeable in flaws to go with you and tear into it, I mean every nook and cranny, take a flashlight with you open everything up this is going to be the boat your investing in DO NOT BE INTIMIDATED by arrogance it is not a good selling point.

If you get a bad feeling from just the seller move on, they can **** up a rope and you can keep looking, they have a boat for sale and you have money which they want who do you think makes the rules?

Don't mistake confidence for arrogance though, if the boat looks like it has been exposed to the elements and the seller is a jerk move on if it looks good and clean that may be another story.

As for a lake test and your experience all you are going to do is drive it, they will launch and load, I would have a price for the boat negotiated before you lake test that way they know how serious you are then the $200 BS will not be an issue, the agreed price is X amount pending a good lake test, end of discussion anything less is no deal

Seriously Trim, I have said hello to a seller and he wouldn't even acknowledge my existence he simply walked past me saying the car is over here, I told him I think he made a mistake and loaded my buddy up and drove off, that guy called me for two weeks wondering if I was serious about that car and no matter how big a jerk I tried to be in telling him I will not buy from anyone I don't trust he kept calling me back, you have the money you make the rules, or they can sit on it for a little bit longer...

I like the way you think Lipp. I just need to find someone that is knowledgeable in finding flaws. All of my friends that have boats are the same as me, not much experience in that area. I have no problem seeing the stuff that is obvious but not in detail. Got my flashlight in hand though and will look over every inch.

Looks like a real nice boat for the price if it checks out. That swim platform is sweet.

Start a new thread Titled NEED HELP IN OKLAHOMA, and in the body offer up a 12 pack of beer for help in looking at the purchase of a used boat in your area, I know we have people in OK and free beer is a great way to break the ice

ezmobee can tell us if this violates any rules but I think your ok, if you up it to a case of beer ezmobee may be the one who volunteers.......LOL

Re: Looking to buy, need some advice

Asked you guys about this boat back on the first page and now I'm back on it. It doesn't have a trailer but I've been in contact with the guy and he will sell it to me $16842 with a trailer. Good deal or not?

http://arrowheadok.com/Page.aspx/di...w/Details/2008-Crownline-Bowrider-180-BR.aspx

You can see the quality materials in that boat. But...there is no snap-out carpet which is just unbelievable to me in such a nice boat. I truly can't believe a 2008 CL doesn't include it as a standard. It (glass floor with diamond pattern and ability to select the carpet pieces as an option) was standard on the equivalent Chaparral model since 2002. I will say that I see a lot of the upgraded MPI V6 in the Crownlines around here than most other boats putting a pretty big generalization out there. That does not have that option either. I'd forgo the glass floor for the MPI if given a choice though.

Re: Looking to buy, need some advice

I asked about carpet and they said yes but didn't even ask if it was snap on/off carpet. Just took that for granted. So you're telling me with this boat the carpet is not removable?? Will that not cause problems with mold, smell, ect??

Well, that's such a robust question, you could start an entirely new thread and watch the back and forth banter.
The CL likely will have carpet glued down over a wood floor or so it looks in those pictures which you may want to verbally verify. It won't mold or smell if you don't let it get wet and stay wet so that is up to you. I have no problem with wood floor especially in a boat practically new but the ability to have or not have the carpet in is very convenient. I'm not a wood basher. Easy clean up whether you just spray the fiberglass floor down at the end of the day or whether you snap out the carpet pieces and shake them. Understand that in the small bowrider world of boats where some boats are made cheaply and are unabashed about it and others say heck with cheap, we are going to make our small boats as nice as our large boats and not cut corners; the Crownline fits in the latter yet cut the most basic corner. For an overdramitization, like a Corvette but with a 150hp four cylinder IMO. You can live without snap out carpet but I'm saying that it better have something to make up for it like an MPI engine which is a huge upgrade in the small bowrider category. Personally, the snap in carpet was a must have and many of the brands, even the cheap ones nowdays at least offer it to you even if it is an expensive option while many give you a fiberglass floor and you have to select the actual carpet pieces as an option like you would a mooring cover.

Re: Looking to buy, need some advice

I retract my earlier statement. You wouldn't sell me a boat that new without MPI.
