Re: Looking to buy, need some advice
Ok first off Seller gets to make the rules that are agreed upon tell them to stick their $200 up their hind end, go look at it get a friend who is knowledgeable in flaws to go with you and tear into it, I mean every nook and cranny, take a flashlight with you open everything up this is going to be the boat your investing in DO NOT BE INTIMIDATED by arrogance it is not a good selling point.
If you get a bad feeling from just the seller move on, they can **** up a rope and you can keep looking, they have a boat for sale and you have money which they want who do you think makes the rules?
Don't mistake confidence for arrogance though, if the boat looks like it has been exposed to the elements and the seller is a jerk move on if it looks good and clean that may be another story.
As for a lake test and your experience all you are going to do is drive it, they will launch and load, I would have a price for the boat negotiated before you lake test that way they know how serious you are then the $200 BS will not be an issue, the agreed price is X amount pending a good lake test, end of discussion anything less is no deal
Seriously Trim, I have said hello to a seller and he wouldn't even acknowledge my existence he simply walked past me saying the car is over here, I told him I think he made a mistake and loaded my buddy up and drove off, that guy called me for two weeks wondering if I was serious about that car and no matter how big a jerk I tried to be in telling him I will not buy from anyone I don't trust he kept calling me back, you have the money you make the rules, or they can sit on it for a little bit longer...
