Re: Magnumdekes 1976 22' Starcraft Islander

Struggled by myself moving the boat to the car hoist due to this sorry state of affairs
100_1577.jpg

after some cussin and sweating I got it on the hoist and slid the trailer under it, Installed two rollers, I am on back order on the other three rollers so temporarily on two. started fitting bunk bolster brackets and some wood bunks, before this sees water I will coat my bunks with epoxy and install bunk slides over top of them. Somewhere in the miserable experience that was fitting the bolsters i got grumpy and forgot to take pics of this process. Logan showed up and took the winch post on, He had to fab up some mounting plates with long bolts due to a grinder cutting it apart and not having U bolts to replace with.
I moved on to this
100_1575.jpg

And oh my the 3M 5200
100_1576.jpg

Now I can show my only bunk and roller view
100_1580.jpg

And this, out board bracket/swim platform/interior reinforcement/seat bracket, transom install FINISHED!!!!!!!!!!!! I am thinking I will add 2 bunks with angle iron and wood under the float pod to give it support for the motors and to deflopperize (cool Iboats term) it.??????????
100_1579.jpg

Logan's finishing touch, winch post, VERY FULL TRAILER, I don't like it but it will work for now. Gonna add a roller on the tongue tube to support the hull. ??????????????

All in all a FREAKING AWESOME work weekend!!! So happy to have the outboard bracket on! Back to the normal tin boat building. Gonna be awesome having a sturdy platform under the boat for working on it.
Enjoy whats left of Sunday, I am going to!!
Mag out.

Looking good MD, going from the cart to a trailer with a completed hull has to feel good.

I think I'd at least add a roller where the trailer and tongue meet. As for the pod support might have to do something like a transom saver, that behind shot looks like anything else would be in the way unloading/loading.

Extended roller on a receiver hitch w/ pin? Pull to unload & load.... Install to transport.

Ya I don't quite have that figured out yet, trailer does flip, so maybe I can add some length to it via two bunks and be alright?

I like it and super strong to! All I gotta hope for is my welds to hold:eek: and good performance out of it, be nice to get our two boats out together and see how they stack up, (after splashes} same hull and similar horsepower in the end I hope. I just wonder how mine will corner with the pod edges being even with the bottom of hull.

I think it will handle even better,.......

Being a bit longer now it should bridge waves very well,...........

That sounds like a great plan!!

I do believe I'll be riding your wake though given your setup:cool:

Don't know why I had a picture of a roller in the middle in my mind.

Now that I've reread your plan for bunks I think that would work fine. A couple of short ones starting from about the axle back and lined up with the pod edge. Don't know how much support you'll be able to get out to the mount edge on the pod but can easily see getting out at least half way under it.

Maximizer, seems to eat through everything, right down to bare alum. My local paint shop has it as does the local semi parts supplier. I have got the feeling it is watered down Muratic acid based on the job it will do to concrete if not watered down before contact I believe milk pipe cleaner is similar, have not used it personally!

Anyone have a link? Googled "maximizer aluminum brightner" and several other variants and came up empty.

Nice progress on the boat. Seriously fast.

I did the same search to help out Jas, I figured out it is a private label mix done for Wyrick co. in zeeland Mi. Wyrick is my paint supplier, Ray has this stuff mixed up for him. Primarily muratic acid and some dillution. I dont know what shipping would be, call and ask for Ray at 616-772-6800 product is maximizer alumabrite, great stuff!

That looks like a pretty good donor boat... Wonder how bad the non-running 228 is?

Um no, I know the guy. I believe the block is cracked and the boat had stuff growing out of it at one time. It was a bad dream for them.
