Packaging and Process Engineer. I design and sell production lines for the food, beverage, Dairy and Pharm plants. We have a large crew of stainless steel welders and lots of scraps that I salvage, which comes in handy for diy projects.

You're welcome!...Oh wait I haven;'t responded yet!

Kev for some reason I cant' see your original post in this thread, the first one I see is from Drowned Rat but I can figure out what you're asking.

I have pretty much always worked at sea in one form or another. My dad was in the navy so I joined sea cadets at age 13 and started messing around in sailing dingys and row boats (navy whalers). We also got to go to sea on naval war ships and use naval auxillary vessels for weekend and summer cruises. Great fun! I loved it!

Shortly after getting out of High School I joined the Coast Guard as a seaman (Civil Service in Canada) and then moved around to various ships and started working on my deck officer certificates as I got the required Sea Time. These vessels have included working for Department of Fisheries & Oceans, Cruise Ships, Fish packers, Liveaboard Dive Tenders, and Mother Ships that are used as Sportfishing Resorts.

A few years ago I stumbled on to a job that I was able to use my Captains certificate and still be home every night. So now I have a beautiful family with two boys and I work on a small ferry on the coast of northern British Columbia. I consider myself a very lucky man!

Re: Main Occupation?

Yeah..there was a time stamp glitch when I started this thread...Go figure..
But my opening thread was...

"First of all..Let me be clear...
Don't care how much money ya make..
But I thought it would be interesting to see what some of you guys do to earn your keep when your not on Iboats..I bet we have a vast and diverse group here, from all across the spectrum..Then there are the lucky few that paid your dues and are retired!

Me, in a nutshell, I sell lightbulbs for a living! Who woulda thought you could do that for a job! lol"

Mike..Sounds like you wake up and go to bed happy with your job, you my friend are a very lucky man..

After being part of Pfizer's first round of layoff's in 2002, I decided to turn an old hobby into a new career. So I now work on boats. Although in this area and in this economy, it could be short lived.

Navy: Electronics Technician
Verizon: Customer Zone Tech II (repairing home and business phone lines, high speed internet, hi-cap circuits, etc.)
Bright House: Neighborhood Tech (same as above, just add cable tv setup, as well as setting up surround sound, new tv's, etc.
Damage Prevention Specialist: Locating underground utilities for excavation.

I like all these jobs, outside, no supervisors looking over your shoulder, company truck which they pay for gas, and lots of OT.

Re: Main Occupation?

I work in Real Estate as a Right of Way Agent. In an nut shell, I tell people they have to move when the government wants to purchase their property for airports, highways, utility lines and the like. I also relocate those folks that have to move. Not only do I negotiate the purchase of entire properties for the government, I also work in purchasing land easements as well. I am sure that was boring for everyone that has read this far...

Before graduating from college, I worked at a pizza chain, fast food chain, grocery store, sold textbooks door to door, a private school, sold new/used Chevy's, security in college dorms, commercial real estate company, and junk company. I have dabbled in almost everything.

In the next couple years I want to switch over to becoming a yacht broker in Florida where I grew up. Not really sure how I am going to get in to that, but will start planning soon. Luckily I am only 23 years old and time is on my side. Anyone that has tips on where to start would be greatly appreciated by PM..

I am a Director of Maintenance for one of those "Luxury Jets" you hear about on the news... Been working on aircraft in one capicity or another for my whole working life...

I am a pilot for one of those very large fractional jet operators.

ya know..that would be a VERY unique way to sell waterfront real estate here in SWFL..Lots of properties with boat slips in the back of the house and a fishing haven!

Small fishing charter, depart from the house, come back in, put the boat on the lift, go inside, my tag line would be "This my friends, could be your day, any day you wanted"...SOLD!

I manage a multiplex cinema. I work every weekend, but the days I'm off boaters are scarce.

Familiar indeed. All of my projector heads are made by Christie. At one point our company tried switching over to an off brand for our lamps, but needless to say that didn't last too long.
